Gall bladder cancer- My mum died of it last year. Diagnosis to death in her case was 6 weeks. You've got no chance with it as hard to spot and when it is,it's too late.

Very sad.
He only lived for two months after making that statement ![]() I've never read any of his books. I might read one in his honour. |

I didn't realise he wrote The Crow Road.
It was a made into a TV series a few years ago. It was brilliant. I'll definitely be buying one of his books. There's a lot to choose from. |

If you're only going to read one - Complicity.
If you like an easy read - The Crow Road. If you like odd musicians - Espedair Street. If you like it dark and strange - The Wasp Factory or The Bridge ( my fav ). If you like Sci-Fi - Anything by Iain M Banks ( His Sci-Fi name ). |

I've just read the first few pages of Complicity on Amazon.
I wouldn't say it's my sort of book but I've now got to read the rest. So I've ordered that one, along with The Bridge. I looked at The Wasp Factory, it looked great but I can't be reading about animal torture so I'll give that one a miss. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll report back when I've read them. |

such a shame. the best of his Iain M Banks novels are really good, imo. worth checking out unless you're really allergic to SF.

Wasp Factory is his best work..imo.gby

The Wasp Factory, Complicity and The Crow Road all very good.
The Bridge good. Dead Air OK. Walking on Glass absolute garbage. Never read any of his SF. Might try it at some point though. I have tended to avoid the genre because I had the impression that it was all Star Trek/Wars-esque space opera, but having read some Christopher Priest and Neal Stephenson, I've got a slightly more open mind now. |

Thinking about it, I think that Complicity probably deserves 'excellent'
