Proper food and not deep fried rubbish, £6 is more than fair. I go to Harrington's in Selkirk Road, Tooting and it never disappoints. Highly recommended.

I feel Pie and Mash, eels and Fish & Chips all got surpassed with the introduction of foreign cafes and restaurants

As you know, Slippy, you can get sorted out with a Lorenzo set lunch for less than Fish & Chips or Pie and Mash

I think there may be a little bit of rose tinted glasses with some 1970's fayre ( I remember Berni Inns with their Melon Boat, Prawn Cocktail and Steak Chips and Peas menu, fondly)

I had a Lorenzo's 5 quid lunch today amazingly enough Salad with some vinagrette dressing and a pepperoni pizza with a pint of draft Peroni of course to wash it down with.

you eat a lot of it then crippen !

What's in the pie when you have pie and mash?
Surely that is the key to if it's value or not.
A decent steak/ale or steak and kidney at a push then ok
but those pies full of gloopy gravy and diced meat you can't tell what it is ....no way Rodders.

anyone old enough to remember the rossis ice cream parlours  from the 60s ,as a kid a knickerbocker glory was an unbelivable treat ! mouth is watering thinking about it now !

there is still a Rossi's in Leicester, don't know if it is the same family

Someone told me they're doing eelpie and mash in cookes's, don't know if i'd fancy eel pie.

Still a Rossi's in Barkinside where I live, still the best ice cream around, made on the premises.

there was one on TV a couple of weeks ago run by two brothers, it had been there since the late 1800's. The pie and mash looked nice but I don't think I could eat a jellied eel.

Pumphol.i use to live in Barkingside, moved away about 10 years ago.it was nice when i moved there, however, Ilford seemed to be getting bigger, so i said Ta Ta.

think i will have a day out to barkingside to sample the delights of rossis for the 1st time in near 50 years . wonder if they still do those knickerbocker glorys and bannana boats

i used to go to rossis in new cross road  south london in the early 60s ,the ice cream was sensational ! goddards  pie and mash in deptford high street also does  meat puddings ,these are tasty but not as good a the pies imo ,deptford high st also has a manzies pie and mash shop almost opposite goddards ,cant be many if any more  high streets in london with 2 pie and mash shops !

Was going to say there are 3 in Roman Road.. But I've been informed one shut 9 years ago and the other 5 years ago ... I should really try to keep up.

One of my faves is Maureens in Crisp Street Market, Poplar.

Maureens is a hallal meat supplier now.

Eel pie was a big favourite of Henry v111. Been instructed by my team to take them their lunch tomorrow. Double on everything. It is reasonable value for money, but not so much as it was. The price of eels has rocketed! I remember being mesmerised by the live ones in Tooting market when I was small.
