Following observations of lat year when I reported seeing only 7.5 wasps (.5 was because one was uncertain) all year!
I am starting this again, prompted by a large shadow on my blinds here, that may well have been a wasp.
The one that tried to keep up with me, on an uphill sprint on the bike, an hour ago most definitely was!
So the count is now........1 wasp

I am renovating my Dads house and having taken the bedroom ceilings down to expose
the roof apex, i counted 12 wasps nests and 3 hornets nests. Is this a record? |

I've seen quite a few wasps this year. I thought they didn't appear till September!

there's a nest on the walk into morpeth where I live, built it into an old stone wall, there's a boat load of them. could cause problems.

September is the month where they go mental, as they are p!ssed on rotten fruit.

Not seen a wasp, a bee, or a ladybird for that matter all year. I've got plenty of ants though if anyone wants them and a few spiders but I like to keep the spiders, I like those critters.

we have ants at top of drive, also noticed a plethora of woodlice on step yesterday as though they were having a team meeting, don't know what was going on there.

I always have the back door open for the mutt, crumbs and general bits of detritus lying around. The cleaner only come once a week so the ants have pretty much got squatting rights now. Other things to worry about really in the greater scheme of things but no doubt in my mind they are launching a takeover bid for the gaff.

Still only one wasp and worryingly no Ladybirds!
Ants, that's another story! Zillions of them here helped by the sandy soil. Hate the little b@stards! Have to keep the windows closed when the flying pregnant females are around, as if they get into the house it's a real problem to deal with, the following year. One of the little suckers had managed to set up home in the overflow of a bathroom basin. The only good news was it was easy to deal with. I just sprayed the killer spray in there, and then filled up to the top of the overflow. All the ones that sought refuge in a higher position were nuked and the rest were washed away. |

Wasps - 1
Murdered with my electric tennis racket  which cost £1 in Wisbechistan market. Spiders 2 or more and are free to roam the house 'Myrtle', a daddy long legs, lives up in the corner of the dining room, 'Boris', another daddy long legs, lives in the lounge behind the alarm sensor. Various small spiders don't last long. Myrtle and Boris probably eat them. There used to be one who lived up in the corner of the alcove above the stairs, but he vanished about 2 months ago, and so did his web. Ants - hundreds of the coonts. My car rarely moves, and hasn't done since Cheltenham, so for the 2nd year, ants have made a nest in it. It took a couple of weeks to get rid of the bastards last year, ant powder was used, though I've since been informed that talcum powder or curry powder does the same thing. Then give the carpets a thorough clean, underneath as well, to suck up eggs, and hopefully the main layer of eggs. I put ant powder around all the wheels om Tuesday to stop new ones getting in. We're having the drive done soon, which will get rid of all the weeds that attract the fackers near the car. They never invade Mrs SFs car as that's in constant use. Ladybirds - 0 |

Saw a little nest forming in a hole in some brick work outside the house. Nuked the coonts with spray then some serious stamping for 1 min or so on the dopey gits. Looks quiet this morning.

Still not a sign this year of a single ladybird, bee or wasp which is somewhat puzzling.
The ants are still doing very well and they all pass on their regards. |

Just another update......
A wasp came to say hi at the weekend. Incredibly it wasn't impressed by the big jug, and several glasses of Pimms, on the table, and neither by the tasty morsels which were there in abundance! It settled on a chair arm and looked to be carrying out some sort of courting ritual. Later it, or another one, came back so have to give benefit of doubt here so..... Wasps.......3 Bees......lost count but not that many (perhaps a dozen or so)! Ladybirds......0 |

Off-topic maybe, but when I was young there were flies everywhere in summer. Dozens of them, in and out the house all the time. Fly swats, aerosols and Vapona things that looked like a couple of toblerones stuck together were all required to keep the barstards down.
Yet, we had one fly in the bedroom on Saturday and it was if it it was the end of the world. |

Haven't seen a single wasp, and plenty of bees. Both of which are a good thing imo.
I'm wondering if it's because I've started feeding the birds, so there are a lot more nearer the house. |

Another very warm day here. Just had a most pleasant lunch alfresco.
Sitting there with the temptation of "Tuna and Cannelini Bean Salad", followed by strawberries and "Greek Yoghurt" and two glasses of "Frascati" I was anticipating some bug action! There I sat for almost an hour, and all we could muster was one bee! Not one other bug, of any denomination (not even an ant) and I was itching to try my new electronic bug zapper! |

My mate had a mouse living in his car. He kept finding holes in the bags of his groceries after he'd put them in his boot. I don't know what it had to drink. I must have found a hole where it could get in and out. |
