Strangled to death slowly by Luck, Cunningham, Fitzgerald. Police warn they should not be approached.  They are unarmed but can bore you to death in 10 minutes or less.

I can't understand why they took the worst of the BBC team (apart from Balding) and the worst from channel 4 (apart from McGrath). It was always likely to end up a failure.

And to top it all off, the race could hardly have been won by more objectionable connections.  A total non-event this time

I agree with the original post sentiments, but alas, another keyboard warrior.

Agree with ebulGery too. Claire Balding has built a reputation by being less awful than the current opposition. Her delivery is staccato, awkward, devoid of charisma, and her knowledge is nothing extraordinary, given her stock. She is now also seemingly untouchable, and starting to sound like she loves the sound of her own voice, which dovetails perfectly with the rest of the new Channel 4 set up, all talking at, and over each other, rather than to each other.

Kenny sounds more like the "keyboard warrior" to me. Amazing the number of ex boxing champions on here.  Quite frightening.

less fallers prob means best prepared and handicapped will win more often, goody

You won't need to be best prepared. Spending all season aiming at it and schooling over national type fences isn't going to give you an advantage if any horse who can make the cut will be kept in the race because they have a good chance of getting round since the fences are just as easy and forgiving as any other course.
By:

with most getting round, the best handicapped at the trip will likely win

With the fences taking less toll nowadays , the primary need is to have some petrol left as they cross the Melling Road rather than jumping prowess.

As they went to Valentine's I was sure Teaforthree would outstay them , but as we know Aurora's Encore was also proven on decent ground over 4 miles.....having had a tenner on a number of outsiders at Betfair SP including the winner I was more than happy at being wrong on Teaforthree.Grin

Yeah just like every handicap but you won't need to prepare/campaign for the National since it is just like any other handicap now.

I've treated it like that for ten ish years shrewd dude

comply or die was the one that really clued me up for it, had been classy as a novice, went wrong, got a lower mark the miraculously found form again - was chucked in off his mark

skankys forum were all on it, Swagger was part of the coup from 40s down to what 10s?

After Mon Mome , Neptunes Collonges & Aurora's Encore , I can envisage mass punting on every beast at 33's and upwards next year ......Cappa Bleu might drift from antepost fav out to about 50's unbacked. Cool

Hardly the same as what I was saying. How many times had he UR or fell and he had won the Eider the race before and was close favourite. He is the type that with the easier fences would have less of an advantage than a horse who fell/UR 25% of his races and who was entered as an afterthought which next years race will attract a lot of.

Preferred the "old guard". At least their love of racing seemed obvious. I seem to be in the minority supporting them - perhaps its my age.

^ Agree.

Thommo', for all his faults, is just a bit of buffoon. A bit like John Motson, I can understand why some don't like them, but not to the extent of directing vitriol in their direction. I used to like Channel 4 Racing in it's early days - Then Graham Goode became Life President of The Graham Goode Appreciation Society, Alistair Down went from likeable disheveled bloke who liked a drink and was sh1t hot on sprint handicaps, to an even more pretentious clone of Brough Scott, when that seemed barely possible. Big Mac just got more opinionated as time went on and pushed the vulgarity boundaries (although I think he was good TV most of the time), and Jim McGrath just looked smugger and smugger, but always reluctantly agreed with John Francome, just to keep him sweet in case he put any spare in his direction. Over the years, Lesley Graham cemented her position as the worlds most unexciting woman, and Thommo' just name dropped and rambled on, thinking the weight of his opinion was being inhaled by the watching millions, when in truth even the camera man stood in front of him was far more interested in the arse of the stable lass of the favourite in the 3.30 from Redcar that had just walked past in the parade ring.

I'd swap them for the current team in a eye blink.
