It is quite incredible. I concur. I find a lot are on the huge oversized cars of wives of rich businessmen who try desperately hard to keep the mother of their kids at home whilst being away as much as possible, which is no surprise given they are generally thick tweatts who certainly cannot drive for the proverbial wurthers

"Here you go love, I've spent two grand on a present for you"
"Smashing darling, is it a necklace? a new pair of earrings?" "Er, no. It's a piece of perspex/plastic to stick on your car so complete strangers know you are called Nellie" |

The sort of message it sends out about the owner of the car would be far better conveyed by fitting a large pink neon penis to the roof.

Bought a second-hand Discovery a few years ago and the plate was L43 *W*, where the *_* happened to match my initials.
People in the village I lived then thought I'd bought a personalized number plate. ![]() On the other hand I've got a cousin who does something with IT and is about 50, lives with his mum and dad and owns a Ford Focus with a genuine personalized number plate. ![]() |

The biggest waste of money there is.
A pet hate of mine. If Daz wants people to know it's DAZ's car why not just get a tin of paint and paint DAZ's car on the doors and roof? |

Have to admit to buying two numbers.
The first was for my RX8 where I didn't want a long plate, at the front, spoiling the look of it. (all the publicity shots show it with no plate). I got A17 RXB for £250.00 (An RX8). Sold the car, and then plus for the plate, £250.00. Second was for my Mazda 6 MPS. I got T16 MPS (Ti6 MPS) again for £250.00. I wouldn't pay crazy money, and certainly not for the vanity of my name on the car! Nothing wrong with having your business name imo, and one seen at the gym recently on a very smart Audi was AU10WEB. That is a local business called "AUTOWEB" if it wasn't obvious before! |

"The biggest waste of money there is."
The cheap ones are probably a waste of money but the expensive ones have been a shrewd investment over time and one likely to keep or increase it's value. If you've got money always worth diversifying your assets. and maybe somnetimes when you haven't? Imagine 2 similar people who have just been made redundant. One has 70k in the bank and one has 15k in the bank and a number plate worth 55k. Is one entitled to income support and other associated benefits and one isn't? |

A bit like the web.com era when you could buy a domain name and hope some company bought it off you for loads.
roger, I do reckon you'd be surprised at the amount of 17-year olds that gasp when their parents hand them the keys to their first car but go mental cos the plate reads 'DE1V 15E' or something (that says Denise, or would do if I could be aressed) Had a business landlord with a numberplate 'WHOOOOOOOOSH' on a green Lamborginhi thing, cuntt went skint. Good. |

The one I did wish I had bought that was available when I bought my second one was MY51 RON.
It was just seen as another RON plate of which there were loads at £450.00. What they hadn't realised is that it was MY 5 1RON. Considering that there is a fair bit of dosh in the golfing fraternity, I reckon it would have fetched good money. I could kick myself now as it was gone when I went back to it. Just looked now and MY 61 RON is available at £1,599! |

It's not something I lie awake at night thinking about, but if someone did one of those word association things with me and said "Driver with personalised plate", my knee jerk response would definitely be "T0sser".

Some bloke who lived near me had the plate PEN 15 on his 4x4 Porsche. Apparently he was a motor cycle champion who was well known around the world in that sport. I can't remeber his name off hand though. Probably would cost a fair bit to buy it from him I would have thought.

Sister-in-law got her hubby a pair of personalised plate about 8 years ago for £550.
The car got wrecked inside by the kids but the plate survived. |

As I've posted before, there used to be a 3.5 Rover Coupe parked near Gardners Corner in Aldgate, with the plate 505 EXY, but the '5' was moved to form 50 5EXY.
And my dad must have had foresight as he drove a car in the 1970s with the reg: 612 CJD - and my mother was a mad cow. I had 333 STN on a Mk2 Jaguar, but there wasn't this fuss over plates back then. The woman next door, who I thought was a doctor or a nurse when we first moved here, but it turns out she's a beautician, has 1 JAB. I offered her £250 for it so I could sell it to a boxer. She laughed ![]() I offered £500 She laughed again, she knew ![]() |

Many moons ago, I used to work with a doctor who had several cars and each one began with DOC then a number. He must have spent a fortune on them but he was a very successful private doctor who actually had Michael Jackson as one of his patients, when he was over here.

Of course, you can buy any number plate you like for about £40 on the internet.
They are sold, legally, as "show plates" to be used off-road only but inevitably some people will drive with them on the public highway |

I had a mate who nearly brought K13 RON (KIERON), but decided in the end to buy a new car stereo! He saw it advertised recently for 20x what he nearly paid for it. Can be a good investment I suppose.

Know the owner of Gef 3
Bought the number plate by buying a wreck of a car over 30 years ago just for the number plate, only time he drove it was to drive it back to London & then had the number transferred to his own car. |
