not that i'm a great fan of her music, but Mariah Carey has a supreme vocal talent.

i don't follow talent shows that closely, but afaik, Leona Lewis and that Bulgarian bird (Ken Li) are the only two to have ever attempted Without You, for good reason. It's a very very hard song to sing even satisfactorily, let alone well. Lewis' rendition was satisfactory but she left out most of the melisma carey puts in too.

Houston was of course exceptional as well before all the drooogs.

I thought that Annie and HRH had it sorted between them early doors. A straight shootout between Aretha and Dusty for me. Surprised that Dionne Warwick hasn't had a mention too, cracking pipes.

Wtf is wrong with you people? Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis?!?!?!? Ffs! Music is obviously a very personal thing, but these three, despite any natural talent they may have, have never conveyed an ounce of genuine emotion between them. Utter dross.

Agree, with the last 2. Celine is decent although she  wouldn't make my top 20. Here she is with the great Bee Gees singing their marvellous song "Immortality".
