For reasons that to this day remain unexplained I never saw The Jam.
Report HRH The Lager Khan March 20, 2013 1:24 PM GMT
Jam and Clash just missed my list, Slippy. Would love to have heard Levi Stubbs sing too. Not a huge fan, but would also liked to have experienced Janis Joplin live.

The only band i aint seen that i would love too is ZZ Top...and Steely Dan and Joy Division
and The Pistols and The Pixies and Joni and Tom Waits and..oh ffs  could go on for hours!
Report HRH The Lager Khan March 20, 2013 1:55 PM GMT
Saw ZZ sofia, even allowing for the fact it was a big open air job at MK Bowl that really didn't lend itself to their style of being a bar boogie band, they were a massive let down.
Report SlippyBlue March 20, 2013 2:01 PM GMT
Yeah sofiakenny, I had heard they were a bit hit or miss live but still would have liked to have seen them for myself.

HRH, Thin Lizzy would have been a riot I'm sure, never saw them either. Shame really as I spent a lot of time seeing bands including some absolute shockers that I'm far too embarrassed to reveal on here and missed some of the good ones. The Boomtown Rats and The Undertones slipped under the radar as well amongst others.
Report Shanelee1966 March 20, 2013 2:05 PM GMT

Never did see Zeppelin. Mate of mine asked if I wanted to go to Knebworth to see them, but I decided to got to Wembley to see The Who (again) a couple of weeks later instead, thinking I'd see them next time around. Of course, there was no next time around.

I turned down a ticket to see Nirvana, as had already agreed to go to a local gig with a friend who I thought was gonna' put out that night. She didn't and the band sucked. Bloody women.

Manowar ( all hail Manowar ! ) were playing Leeds O2 last year , to this day and to my dying days I will never understand how I never went to see them play

Have planned trips across the continent to see them in festivals in Germany and France and even Sweden yet missed them when they were playing 2 miles from my front door.
Report HRH The Lager Khan March 20, 2013 6:06 PM GMT
Not my bag, but are they still signing record contracts in their own blood? Grin

I'm on loads of gig mailing lists, and I recall they were charging a daft amount for a gig at Brixton a year or so ago.
Report The Priest March 20, 2013 6:15 PM GMT
No the days of signing in blood are over lol

I think it was around £30 for the Leeds gig

When you consider what sort of spectacle you get from one of there concerts it was well worth the money.

A couple of interesting facts about Manowar

They still hold the World Record for loudest concert ever done , they still hold the world record for longest concert ever done ( nearly 6 hours lol )

Singer Eric Adams recorded a song called 'Father' which was a personal tribute to his Dad , he learnt to sing it in 15 different languages so that no matter where they played he could sing it in the native tongue of the country they were in at the time.

A lot of bands say they are doing it for the fans but Manowar really are a 'fans ' band.
Report HRH The Lager Khan March 20, 2013 6:25 PM GMT
Fair play to them.

I've heard so many say MBV were the loudest band, I sort of took it as read!

Certainly earlier B-52s PR, I'd agree. Not so keen on their later stuff.

Point taken Ylime but rather fancy the horse has bolted.
The Chameleons are another I never saw yet wished I had and could see now but it wouldn't be quite the same as if I'd caught them first time round.
Oddly enough I've seen all the 1976+ bands mentioned on here.....as someone else said The Jam were poor. The Cramps were the best live of those mentioned on this thread but The Jesus And Mary Chain at Liverpool Royal Court shortly after releasing Psychocandy was my best gig ever.

Shocked I remember very well a newsflash in August 1977, I was at my Aunts house in Kent with Mum and Dad and the siblings, we were having a bbq. They both started crying that Elvis was dead, I was 11 at the time. I may post like an old fogie sometimes but I'm not really. Been there done it, got the tee shirt etc but life left in the old dog yet.

I would have loved to have seen Pulp, I'm sure they would have been brilliant.

Would love to have been at one of those West Coast gigs featured on Velvet Underground's Live 1969 LP. Even better, to have been present at one of their rehearsals.

For those wishing they'd seen Joy Division, I can tell you that live they had an intensity and a very special aura that I've never experienced with any other act. The music was well played, but had a violence missing from the studio records. And you simply could not take your eyes off Curtis. It sounds dreadfully trite, but such was the passion with which he performed Wilderness that putting his left hand to his eyes at the line "They had tears in their eyes" left me feeling Id never seen a man in the grip of such emotion.

Very hard to convey ... You had to be there.
Report TiptheOdds March 21, 2013 9:48 PM GMT
Its strange that Joy Division were so good live...and New Order so bad. Only one thing missing, sadly.
Report TiptheOdds March 21, 2013 9:49 PM GMT
Anybody here seen Rammstein live - not really my kind of music, industrial metal or whatever it is, but their live show looks amazing.
