A mate of mine still works for them. He's been there 26 years.

I remember when there was a re-organisation circa 1989. Programming (software) would be done in Bracknell and Reading. Manufacturing (hardware) in Manchester and Kidsgrove. The hard northerners and the soft southerners Laugh

Lots of things mentioned that you can still get.

One thing you can't is 'Bluebird toffees'.

Best sweets ever.
Report Tommy Toes March 9, 2013 3:24 AM GMT
"Blue Bird Toffee is a brand of toffee, founded in Worcestershire, England, in 1898 by Harry Vincent.
Vincent had similar ideas to Cadbury and the Frys with regards to the workplace being a pleasant environment to work.
Vincent's toffee was originally called Harvino, but after watching Maeterlink's play 'The Blue Bird of Happiness' he renamed the product Blue Bird.
Bluebird Toffee left their West Midlands site in October 1998, and the company now trade in Hull as part of Needler's.
Needler's changes name after acquiring Blue Bird to become Needler Bluebird. In 2002 Needler Bluebird was purchased by Ashbury Confectionery and discontinued all lines previously made by Needler's and Blue Bird.
Ashbury donated the company's collection of historic Blue Bird packaging to the Black Country Living Museum."

I've seen the pictures online before when I looked Kunzle Showboats up a while back - I also read this piece from an engineer who worked at the factory and he tells how they will never be made again as the production costs are too high, which is a great pity:

Thanks Pumpy. Wasn't even sure if Branston was still available tbh.

Going slightly off-topic, Lea & Perrin (famous for their Worcestershire sauce) used to produce a very tasty chilli and garlic sauce.

It was in a similar shaped bottle to the Worcestershire sauce. Bright red in colour but no artificial flavourings. You could use it as a dip or add it to your cooking.

Used to get it at Tesco's. Disappeared off the shelves about three years ago

Highland Toffees, from the era in which 5p would get you about 2 hours worth of chewy sugarary badness.

They stopped selling the good stuff in favour of some dumbed down only takes 20 mins nonsense. Didn't even begin to threaten to rip my teeth out. Not happy.

I still call Opal Fruits, Opal Fruits by the way. My mum, God bless her long buried cotton socks, never let the word Snickers slip from her mouth - Marathons were Marathons, and that was that, b*gger the packaging.
