I was born in Brixton with both parents Irish. At school I was called Paddy, (middle name Patrick after my Grandad but that was only by my mates as anyone who was taking the rise in a derogatory fashion got a few right handers). Going to Dublin to see some relatives I used to get chased down the road every now and then to the shouts of "go home ye English ba$stard"!

I was sort of stuck in the middle Laugh

that reminds me of a good mate of mine. His cruel parents moved from Wolverhampton to Islington when he was 11. The London kids would all gather round just to listen to his accent, and from the very first day onwards he was known as Barry (Auf Weidersehen Pet was new on the TV at the time).

Do you regret you were born English?

Born in England, neither proud nor embarrassed to be English.

By a quirk of fate, I'm technically a second generation Indian, which is of no relevance here but gives me rights unavailable to most Europeans in India - my dad was born there.
