LIVE PIG BRUTALLY CUT IN HALF: A SHAMEFUL TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL IN VIETNAM

Every year on January 28th, at Nem Thuong village in Vietnam, villagers held a cruel traditional festival during which a pig is brutally chopped into two while it is totally conscious.

Thousands of people participate to the “ceremony” to honor their local guardian deity, Doan Thuong and for good luck too.

During the ceremony, the poor pig is carried around the village before being placed on the ground on its back. Assistants hold ropes attached to the pig's legs, exposing its belly. Then, a man with a large blade chops the pig in half and the villagers rush to smear their banknotes with the blood of the pig, in the belief that it would bring good luck in the New Year.

Once again animals die in horrible ways in the name of traditional celebrations. OIPA condemns this pointless and cruel festival and asks for the immediate stop, inviting Vietnamese government to promote non-violent traditional ceremonies.

Dear sirs,
I want to express my deepest indignation for the brutal and cruel traditional festival of Nem Thuong village in Vietnam. A live pig is brutally chopped into two with a large blade while it is totally conscious. Then, the villagers rush to smear their banknotes with the blood of the pig, in the belief that it would bring good luck in the New Year.
It is shameful and morally unacceptable that on 2013 animals being killed in the name of traditions so I ask you to STOP immediately this utterly pointless and shocking practice.

I think he does spasmodically rob. He's not a bad bloke really but has no empathy whatsoever for animal suffering, I'm sure he does his bit in other areas.

Unless I have some huge huge evidence to the contrary, my starting point with lawyers is that they are all coonts.  I hate them.

Is the pamplona run not cool with the animal lib lot either then?  I thought that was their source of revenge.

Can't understand why anyone would want to be cruel to an animal. It makes my blood boil, as Mum used to say and I thought I never would,

Apologies if this has been posted previously but this really is the most
intelligent and compelling argument for veganism i've ever encountered .

Rather long but worthwhile . Gary Yourofsky would be proud of you canny ...

The argument against veganism is much quicker and easier to deal with though Kenny.   Was given by none other than our very own Mr Winkle:

"i am not gonna dance with it or marry it, I am gonna eat it so who cares how it is treated?"

I paraphrase of course, but it has a certain poetic simplicity.

Kenny, so that you know, I don't get hurting animals unecessarily.  If you have to kill an animal, do it humanely.  I happily oppose this pig ceremony and bull fighting.

Fishy, it's OK imo to interfere with other people's cultures when they involve extreme suffering to a defenceless animal.
