Cant choose between Flux of Pink Indians and Peter and the Test Tube Babies.  Go for the latter if pushed.

I can think of some crap ones

The The, Mr Mister, Caravan and The Alan Parson's Project

I'm not familiar with any of their music, and with names like that I never will be:

"What you listening to fella?"
" Mr Mister, Caravan, The Alan Parson's Project and The The"

Strangely the name Jimmy the Hoover suggests ( to me ) that he was a rock and roll drug monster so that's OK ( unless he doubled as a domestic cleaner/cleaning appliance in which case it is not

Cliff Rescue and The Helicopters also known at some point as Ken Wood and The Mixers used to appear in gig listings when I were a lad - before I was old enough to go, so no idea if they were any good.

Carter Unstoppable Sex Machine for me too, Slippy blue.

Jimbob still lives at Crystal Palace; my son talks to him occasionally.

Apart from the name; brilliant lyrics too.

Half Man half Biscuit  too.

John Peel used to make them up; "and there will be music later from The Flying Cream Shots" was one of his.

Brewer's Droop.
The last album of theirs was as The Booze Brothers and featured Nopfler and Edmunds, the cover is worth a look.

Saw an all-girl band years ago called Bertha's Got Balls.

Good rock band they were an' all. Happy
Report dunlaying January 6, 2013 12:08 PM GMT
Yes,and there was another all girl group called,of course,Fanny.
The could play a bit too.
Report dexter_pinto January 6, 2013 12:39 PM GMT
I don't know much about them, but I've got a feeling that they're an American all-girl group, Slunt is a great name.

Gaye Bykers on Acid, Gay Dad and Sultans of Ping FC. I always thought Def Leopard was a particularly silly name for a band and they didn't even spell it right - a serious chit-chat faux pas.

The Four Skins was a great name...kinda summed them up perfectly.

Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias another cracker.

Then the band named after a well known ex-C4 Racing presenter´s method of picking winners: System of A. Down
Report HRH The Lager Khan January 6, 2013 5:43 PM GMT
The Manic Street Preachers is a great name too.

I always said I'd call my band The Duration. Be great at festivals - "How long are you here for?", "Oh we're here for the duration"

Got a soft spot for Cradle of Filth, Bomb Disneyland (later banned, and disappointingly re-named Bomb Everything) and Slayer. To the point, great metal band names.
