The 90`s where my 60`s. I was an Indie kid(well a 20 something Indie kid) A great era. Massive Blur, Oasis,Verve, Charlatans fan...but for me the real class is with  Led Zep, Kinks,Beatles etc. These are the bands which will stand the test of time. Same with Nirvana i think.

Although favouritism is something which is free to all. Good choices though pal.

Oasis are already starting to blend into the background. The music did not have the long lasting grooves. It was for that time. Great for that era but bye bye. They were a mild version of a few genres. A little bit of Beatles, a little bit of Sex Pistols, a little bit of the Jam, a little bit of T Rex, and on and on. It wont live forever.

Oasis sales are at 70 million.

How many more are you expecting to be sold Ayres RockConfused
Report Gnarley January 6, 2013 3:48 AM GMT
Surely the probability that Oasis wont ever "outsell" the Beatles isn't really what's important here.

Music in general, individual songs perhaps and bands most likely are emotive creatures that reach deep inside of each of us (or not) and the feeling that we each get from a melody, rhythm, beat or turn of lyrical phrase cannot, surely be quantified.

The memories, or even more than than that - the transportation to a place or time or even a specific heartbeat that a second or two of a certain song can impart on us is the same as the question of where were you when JFK/Elvis/Princess Di or whomever died.

Songs, music and bands will be here until we all go overboard and capsize, the second worst thing we can do shirley is to ignore everyone else's recommendations (ie top 5) to listen to a potentially good one and the ultimate sin is to criticise anyone else's choices.

Having said that, should anyone put Kylie up and in particular "I should Be So Lucky" I'll hunt them down and punish them with a wedgie or seven. That fecking tune seemed to wake me up more often than not at a certain time (turn of the 90's I'm guessing) and cost me about 3 bedside clock/radios!

It's music FFs, enjoy it all.

Happy

Typically hypocritical. And anyway, for the third time, I wasn't taking a 'pot shot' at your personal choice, I was just saying I felt it was a bit daft putting down as one of your top five all time favourite bands, one that has only ever released two albums.

Incidently, Howd, it would be difficult to discount the founder of The Velvet Underground, with probably 20 solo albums to his name who has influenced, by their own admission, the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop and many more......in favour of a band with the 'Manchester sound' who released a couple of very good albums. But it's all about opinions......

Gotta love how these "fav ever band" threads ALWAYS turn into a SEETHfest for the Oasis haters.

For me Oasis were always a live act, who, live were as good at the very end as they were at the very begining.

If people hate Oasis then good for them(it's all about opinion) but purrleese spare us all the "they did 2 great albums and the rest were shoite" old pony...as if someone hating the music is really gonna devour the 1st 2 albums in the first place!

Laughwtf, it doesn't what your opinion is on this, their songs are classics, and on respected music magazines polls, two of their albums were voted very highly, most of their b-sides are 100 times better than any track released to day so not sure how they blend in to the back ground if anything it shows up how crap music is today

My opinion/personal taste is that I don't like musicians who take themselves way too seriously

I suppose there is room for Bob Dylan and the like, but if you're an earnest fkucker trying to get your message across you better make sure you've got a catchy number or else you're going to look like a tw@t

I did give them strong consideration, James. But, ultimately they failed to make the cut due to an overall slide in quality of their albums. Its a shame as their first album, "Bring It On" is in my opinion one of the best album ever made. "Liquid Skin" was solid enough and even "In Our Gun" had some merit. But, their recent albums just don't do it for me. Sad Still one of the best live bands I've ever seen though. Happy
