Hideous things and they drive councils totally up the wall.
The reason why they dont get trashed is because they are chav tributes and as most would be trashers would also be chavs sorta stands to reason.
While grief affects people in many ways these roadside shrines along with their "see you in da maccy d's in da sky bro"tributes are just another excuse for the underclasses to howl with grief froever more imo.

tbf - from the council /police viewpoint they probably act as a speeding deterrent to some folk .
each to their own ,can't see how people get so worked up about something that doesn't directly affects them .

Like the tributes, I'm kind of "on the fence" on this one!
My opening post was in no way supporting the practice, but just commenting on how the tributes are not trashed.
It must be a dilemma for the councils, as removing them would appear to be callous, but, at the same time they should not be there in the first instance (just as "Earn An Extra Income" and "Happy Fortieth Sandra" etc.
I also am in agreement with Java, as this is doing nothing but leaving the the family in perpetual grief!
Nothing wrong with tending a grave, so why don't people just have their quiet moments, doing just that?

A lot of it is to do with taste. I doubt anyone would have a problem with a rose bush or similar being planted. Some 'shrines' are big and brash and a distraction to road users.

Cycled a lot when mooching round Sardinia. There was some kind of roadside memorial round just about every turn.
There is one round here as well in a 30mph residential road, where someone smashed into a tree. They must have been going some.

Excruciating sights. Do we have Princess Cry's rotting vegetable heap for this ghastly phenomenon.
Graveyards have subsequently become the latest location for all manner of debris piling up on headstones.

My mate was once getting a **** whilst driving down the road, and crashed his car into a fence, surprisingly enough a week or 2 later there was a floral tribute.

Lorry driver near us went round a corner and a motorcyclist going far too fast slid underneath him and killed himself. The accident was about a mile from where the lorry driver lives and he now has to pass the floral tributes reminding him of what happened every single day.

I love them. Mainly cos I s**** to myself every time I read a phrase along the lines of 'Sleep with the angles'. If you're going to leave a message, at least spell it right.
