I would be surprised if the police hadn't checked and double checked their information before touching Max with a bargepole. If he was totally clean he would be self assured and able to rebut any accusations, this reaction suggests a case to answer.

This has now got seriously weird. Numerous well-known bbc presenters, politicians, and now Max Clifford, have suddenly been accused of being paedophiles, some thirty odd years after the event in most cases. We're supposed, presumably, to believe that this is because the Savile case has made people previously unwilling to come forward, more confident to do so. But that's obvious bullshit, people have been coming forward to make accusations against celebrities since...well forever, and many of those have been untrue.  There are supposedly 450 reported assaults. That has to be absolute bollocks, surely. I know SOME people don't report assualts, and I've sympathy with them, but over 400?  I'm not one to sit with the conspiracists but there are strings being pulled here. Something is very wrong indeed, and the timing re Leveson could be more than co-incidental.
Report Capt__F December 6, 2012 10:09 PM GMT
never under estimate the stupidity of the police
Report moisok December 6, 2012 10:11 PM GMT
we don't know what the accusations are The police have a poor record in sex cases to date  and look like they are making up for it!!???  Guess we have to wait and see.  But how do you present evidence and get a fair trial in front of a jury based on say - a 9 year old's evidence who is now 40.
How do you examine evidence as a juror on someone who attended a drug fueled party when she was 15 and accuses a bloke 35 years later??!!
There are going to be a few false accusations to come, I bet, and look to see how this will colour evidence of those who have really been abused.
Report moisok December 6, 2012 10:14 PM GMT
errrr!!!   They haven't got the two Maxs mixed up HAVE THEY??????
Report Clungehungry December 6, 2012 10:18 PM GMT
Yes, but where is the information used in these arrests/questioning coming from? It surely can't be loads of people simultaneously going oh yeah, **** I was abused 35 years ago, NOW I should make a point of it? Are the police going over OLD accusations and taking them more seriously? Or did they find something at Savile's house?

I think Hall is so far the only one charged...other than the dead ones who the police and politicians have been swift to declare guilty without trial. It's all just so odd.

and the 5 airport workers who were 'terrorists' and were nothing of the sort
hmmmmm!!!

Report Clungehungry December 6, 2012 10:52 PM GMT
I wouldn't ever wish to attack the police, but arrest is not evidence, sometimes they **** stuff up, either out of malice or incompetence. I wouldn't point the finger here, in any way, but as I said earlier, it all seems really strange to me.

Report moisok December 6, 2012 11:31 PM GMT

they (the police ) also arrested 12 students and 5 airport workers on terrorist charges and likewise bashed down the door of an asian family

none of them were terrorists

Report HRH The Lager Khan December 6, 2012 11:37 PM GMT
Of all the people to surely, surely make those that made the allegations think about the repercussions of getting it wrong before they acted, Clifford would have to be pretty close to the top of any list.
Report moisok December 6, 2012 11:51 PM GMT

and the poor old basic copper caught up in it all - I blame the pc leadership everytime

I should think the festering politics of the police leadership stinks to high heaven.
Report Clungehungry December 6, 2012 11:54 PM GMT
Sure, I agree. What is worrying is how readily the police, press and politicians are pronouncing people guilty without trail. Or dare I say, prenoncing. I know this has all supposedly come from public calls but it looks very scripted to me.

in a country where people can be locked up for eight years without charge and innocent people shot dead by police on the underground it does not surprise me if people are now being arrested with little or no evidence.
seems to me the police conducting operation yewtree are running around like headless chickens rounding up anyone famous who may have had an accusation made against them in the past no matter how groundless or maybe vindictive that accusation may have been.

I am so sad - I see what the force is now and it makes me choke with rage how they are told to work by those at the top.
Report Clungehungry December 7, 2012 12:15 AM GMT
I know a few good coppers, and a couple in intel as well. I'm not saying they're perfect, but they're not all monsters for sure.

I just genuinely, don't know what the hell is going on here. If it WAS me you were asking earlier TMF, the biggest celebrity scandal...ever...coinciding with the 'do we puzzle the press' debate in the house of commons seems an incredible coincidence, if it is indeed such.
Report moisok December 7, 2012 12:19 AM GMT
yes
but it is the leadership that holds the key - policy, practice and prosecution of said policies.  they decide.  Just look at the skewed priorities - the amount of work and the cutting of the force - it is not a good story.  Indeed they are shackled by political correctness.
The leadership love a good moral panic and popular publicity - big cases - lots of attention and tipping off  etc etc
