Can be a very expensive and frustrating exercise.

If you are buying, and a car previously advertised has gone off the site, don't assume it is sold as I would suggest that at least half are unsold,
and the seller doesn't want to chuck any more money at it!

If you were selling would you put up a photo like this one?

What a tw@t!

Government should bring back the £2k new car scrappage scheme imo

With price of fuel, insurance, tax, labour charges if fault occurs etc - buying a 10yr old car from a private seller is madness

not as mad as buying a New car that depreciates 33% as you drive it off the forecourt CrazyCrazy

If you don't know any thing about cars. If you do then it certainly makes sense to buy a car of this age and run it into the ground

Emden, SPOT ON. I bought a Nissan X trail for a specific purpose, needs changed and I sold it 2 1/2 years later and did 11k in cold blood, (Ken Livingston was threatening to charge £25 to bring a 4x4 into central London at the time). I bought a 1999 car 4 years ago not spent a penny on a service or anything else, so I have clawed some of my losses back.

Sorry, forgot to say paid £500.

I'd never buy a new car , have bought & sold lots over the years
I got robbed 2-3 times on heaps of junk but you get lots that you drive for a year & sell with no problems at all if you're smart
The one i've got now runs like a new car for £1400 , a great runaround though a bit too small for me

I'd like to buy a newer Audi like this for next year

Here is a fantastic opportunity to get a very rare car for little money.

I should add, at this point, that I am looking for something for a girlfriend of my son's, up to £2k, as she blows all her money on
exotic holidays!

She really wants a Golf Tdi but you would be surprised how hard it is to find anything, within budget, and at a reasonable distance.

Also how few diesels there are (I thought maybe half would be diesels)!

Lots of GTis, which are ruled out, and finding one with less than 100k miles is like the proverbial "Rocking Horse Sh!t"!
Many have way over 150k miles which is far too much for a petrol one.

Hence I am looking at Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra etc.
