Just rediscovered Babybird recently. They produced some absolute gems, & were a seriously under-rated (almost ignored) band in the 90s. Shows just how strong that decade was for music that they were pretty much overlooked. It's the sort of music the world still needs & withstands the test of time very well.

The Most Beautiful?

Probably the best, although I only heard it very recently is Sinead O Connors 'This Is A Rebel Song' -

In the You tube clip she introduces it as 'This Is A Love Song' - in contradiction. -
It is totally SHOCKING!

It's very uncomfortable to hear her portray Ireland as an abused women, & England as her 'hard Englishman' lover.

“I love you my hard Englisman,
Your rage is like a fist in my womb”.

Sung with such brilliant & beautiful passion though,  & although 'lyrically' extremely challenging, her fantastic performance makes it a really beautiful 'love' song.

I like this song because it is unusual and having listened to loads of versions of it, Dusty sings it best.

I read somewhere that dusty was not well liked because she was a tyrant in the studio, always striving for the best phrasing etc and it shows in her version of this song.

This has just come to mind.
A really beautiful song by a group who are almost forgotten now, yet made a massive impact in the 70s - not just for their music but because of their line-up:
A white man (Roger Cook) with a black woman (Madelaine Bell) as dual lead singers.

No big deal you may think now, but at the time it was an enormous change in the way things 'were done' in this country.
I reckon Blue Mink broke down more racial stereotypical boundaries than probably anyone else in Britain at that time.
