The age of consent exists to protect 15-year-olds from natural desires of men, not to protect 5-year-olds from unnatural ones.
I gave up on the OP's link when it said the "victim" was 21. |

You're describing Savile as "natural"? (his targets were generally 13-17)
"I gave up on the OP's link when it said the "victim" was 21." my guess is you gave up on discovering that the content was more than a paragraph long and not an easy to understand headline telling you what to think. |

he used his fame to manoeuvre himself into a position where he could abuse youngsters, nasty vile git, even preyed on young patients at a psychiatric Hospital. And probably a lot more disturbing things to come out yet as his victims are beginning to talk.

They say he was well connected to members of the royal family, politicians, police.
But he managed to hoodwink them all. WOW, he must have been very, very clever because they never even noticed - even game him a knighthood. My obviously daft sister-in-law met him (well before the scandal errupted) and said he was creepy - fook me, what did she know? Silly girl. Even all them folk at the BBC with all their brains never noticed. I really think not. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

One thing that bothers me about this hoodwinking business -- why do people think Savile had to fool anyone who wasn't a 15-year-old girl or whatever his fancy was? Chequers would have been full of 60-year-old politicians, not the Top of the Pops audience. It was the same with this Louis Theroux documentary -- Theroux was not an attractive teenage girl, possibly in hospital, so why is he surprised Savile's darker side was not on show?
And why was this 4-year-old thread revived? |

Ram ...
Of course he didn't hoodwink them. They were (and still are) complicit. Hence the continuing debacle re the public enquiry into all of this. The last thing the royals, churches, politicians etc want is a searching public enquiry. |

Andrew Marr's BBC4 series about books, Sleuths, Spies and Sorcerers, draws attention to Val McDermid's 1997 crime novel, The Wire in the Blood, which features a television celebrity who does voluntary work in a hospital, runs marathons for charity and is a serial rapist and murderer. 1997.
