Stand in the centre of a room, put your arms out to the side and twist your torso from one side to the other as far as you can while keeping your legs still.

Alternatively lie on your back on the floor, raise one knee and push it as far over the other side as you can while keeping your shoulders flat to the floor. Repeat several times with each leg.

The bad news is that once having put out a disc the ligaments around it will be weakened and the disc will pop out from time to time. You learn to be careful!

I have had one collapse in my neck Steve 4 years ago. They had to go in through my throat to remove it, unfortunately it was not diagnosed quick enough and it has damaged my spinal cord.

Worst pain I know of. Stand with your hands on the back of a chair (waist height).

Move your hips towards the right. This basically pushes the stuff between your discs (can't recall the name) back to where it should be.
Report Burton-Brewers September 13, 2012 11:42 PM BST
you've got to be careful because if the disc is chaffing on the spinal cord you will be knackered believe me.

That's what I have to do - I had a physio tell me about it.

Don't bounce or jerk as you do it - just steady.
Report Burton-Brewers September 13, 2012 11:47 PM BST
have you had an MRI scan to determine how close the disc is to your spinal cord?
Report 666_v September 13, 2012 11:48 PM BST
It isn't actually the disk out in a 'slipped disc', but the shock absorbing gel in between the discs.

It's this gel which pushes on your spinal cord (in my case anyway)

nothing worse than a dodgy disc Cry.ask david "kid" jensen
Report Burton-Brewers September 13, 2012 11:53 PM BST
ah well that's ok. mine collapsed and all the gel came out and the disc then partially severed my spinal cord leaving me tetraplegic

You should get in touch with NHS for a physio - they'll visit you if it's too bad to walk

Sorry to hear that BB - was it through an accident or degeneration?
Report Burton-Brewers September 13, 2012 11:55 PM BST
nothing can be done, the disc has been replaced with a plastic cage but spinal cord damage is permanent
Report Burton-Brewers September 13, 2012 11:55 PM BST
industrial accident

I haven't but my missus has. Like you, she experienced severe pain in the back and leg.

She said it's like the worst toothache you can imagine multiplied by 10 so I sympathise.

She's a lot better now but still has the odd episode, although nowhere near as severe.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Actually, I think she said multiplied by 100

Over a period of two years I damaged three discs ( bottom three vertebra ). The first ( lowest) was painful but eased with pain killers . The second ( next highest ) was more painful and lasted longer. The THIRD . Unbearable pain . I took at a guess 20 paracetamol a day and 12 Dihydrocodeine . Hardly cut into the pain . Son visited saw me suffering and suggested a joint. In desperation I took him up on his suggestion. BANG Pain gone . This happened over christmas when my GP was away. When he returned I told him what happened . He said that he would have ( advised ??) the same action. Cannabis is taken by MS sufferers to control nerve pain , which is what is happening to you.

Please check with your GP before using this remedy.

kpf is right cannabis can really help with these sort of problems. I use it when my sciatica gets really bad. Works really well. Unlike prescription drugs that did zip for me.

If you don't like the idea of smoking it you can always 'vape' it or make canna butter & bake cookies & the like.

Really is about time that weed was legal for medical use. Like it is in a lot of states in the USA. Won't happen here though, too many people ready to 'demonise' what is a really helpful natural plant that can aid many medical conditions.

YEAH right, you see the court cases for drug related crimes now.

All defendants in wheel chairs.
