not necessarily because they are rubbish, but as everything is so hyped up, touched up and exagerated these days they cannot possibly to live up the expectations and leave you a little flat when you actually get to see them .....

I give you,
The Hoover Dam
Niagra Falls
The London Eye
Sydney, Australia
Lulworth Cove
Kate Moss (sat a row in front of me at a concert Crazy)

Went in 2005.

I had been to Troon a few years earlier and was blown away. At some points I was literally within touching distance of Tiger Woods. I walked a few holes stood next to his Dad (and a security guard) which was fun. The whole course was fantastic from a viewing point.

St Andrews was the polar opposite. You are miles from the action... Loads of Japanese tourists getting in the way.

I have never played there and I'm sure it's a nice place to play but I'd never go back to watch.

Barcelona

A pefectly decent european city, with a beach a half finished cathedral,v little actual history per se and a hell of a lot of tourists.Moderate impersonified imo.

My first ever trip to watch England at Wembley - took weeks to get there, bought the worlds most expensive hot dog, non-existant atmousphere and Stewart Downing on the left hand side.

Wembley is a good shout.

The old one I'm talking about.

2 foot puddles of pi55 in the toilets.... sat a mile away from the pitch.

And took 2 hours to get out of the car park.

Has anyone ever been to the site of the battle of Waterloo?

It is a manmade hillock. It is in a large flat featureless field. There is a statue of something. And a small shop selling tat with pictures of Napoleon on.

I went when it was raining too. Walofs.

At least you saw it. i went to Copenhagen 2 years ago, and the bastards had sent it off to Dubai or somewhere for a 6 month loan to a museum.

Fripp & Eno.   Only gig I've ever walked out of, and I've been to more than a few.

Dreamland, Margate... Five minutes on the Big Wheel, and spent the rest of the day throwing up.

Stone Henge... Yep, plenty of fkin stones...

Mario Testino exhibition at The National Portrait... So far behind David Bailey, it beggars belief..

Le Gavroche. Arguably the worst restaurant on the planet.

£100 for a seat to watch Frank Bruno vs Joe Bugner at White Hart Lane... All I saw was a fkin towel flying through the air.

Butlins, Bognor.... Still can't fathom out why the fk I went there...Sad

Been to Sydney loads, and can't see what you don't like about the place.

Stone Henge... Yep, plenty of fkin stones...

Not as big as you think either and behind fences on a main road

Has anyone tried woodhenge? Just a few small blocks of wood where the original blocks used to be.

St Andrews golf course.

^ For one of the most famous courses in the world it is also the most accessible, take a trip up and walk the 18th with the bridge hey take photos no one will stop you.

Walk along the beach that they shot chariots of fire on ,no problem.

I think amongst the most famous courses in the world it is also the most easiest to access, try going to Augusta and let me know how you got on,ps do they allow females there now ?

Sydney for me as well I'm afraid.  Left England in late June during glorious summer weather and stopped off in Malaysia for a sun drenched week on Langkawi.  Touched down in Sydney with little more than shorts and t-shirt in my bag to find torrential rain and cold temperatures.  Stayed in 'backpacker Mecca' King's Cross which is a complete sh1thole.
To compound matters further I met up with a couple of mates who were towards the end of their travels.  All the miserable tw8ts wanted to do was sit in the room and bide their time until their flight left.  I lasted about a week, spending my time betting in the RSL and enjoying $5 steaks on a boozer in George St before I could stand no more and left my miserable mates and headed north to Brisbane for a bit of Aussie sunshine.

BonVivvy has pinched one of my best ones - Barcelona.

Breeders Cup - went to Belmont Park in 2005. Poor atmosphere, crap facilities and didn't feel as special as I thought it should.

New Zealand wins hands down for me.  Spent a month there a few years back and the biggest let down ever - to call it a toilet would do a disservice to toilets.

Might be ok if you are near death and want to stare at flowers and/or mountains for one last time before going upstairs but forget it if you want to do anything interesting or enjoy some element of service.

Other than that, agree with The Mermaid, Stonehenge and Kate Moss (saw her at Romford dogs one night with Jools Holland and couldn't decide what box she should go in).

On the positive, Sydney did it for me !

The Manakin Piss, Brussells - It was that crap, i even revisited some 25 years later to take another look just to find out it was still crap.

The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen - Although not quite as dissapointing as The Manakin the Mermaid is one hell of a walk from down town c'hagen to see something you could pick up in a garden centre back home for £29.99

Oslo, which bit? The north, south, east & west bits with central Oslo coming a distant fifth. You'll need the proceeds from 5 little mermaids to go out on the lash here.

Luxembourg, i walked from france to germany & then to Belgium before i found my hotel & could i buy a postcard could i ****!

Douglas, how very dissapointing, if i'd of stayed for another 3 months i'd still be waiting for the place to open!

La Guaira Venezuela, one of our ports of call on our wonderful Caribbean cruise only to be advised not to get off the boat as there was a good chance we would be mugged, WHY STOP HERE THEN? it was the last time that this cruise ship ever stopped there!

Someone should gather these together for a tv series.  get Ricky Gervais's mate to host it.
