Just had a run in with someone at my back fence. Basically my dog was barking at the fence for a prolonged period of time, and when I went to check there was two boys (aged about 10/11) standing kicking a ball of the fence and generally deliberately antagonising the dog.
I shouted at them to get away, before the mother storms across the road (the footpath is about 50 feet away from the fence) to say she can stand and annoy much dog if she wants and a grown man shouldnt talk to "wee kids" that way. I advised her that they were deliberately annoying the dog and she had not done anything to stop them.
After some further verbal she called me a "****1n fat b@stard" to which I replied at the height of my voice "**** off you c*nt!" - she disappeared back across the road to join her husband and kids.
Must admit I dont normally get into verbals with folk, but I couldnt believe the attitude of this woman. I really feel I have lowered myself to her level by what I said - so ... would you have called her the same?

you needed to diffuse the situation really, when she called you a fat b@stard you should have asked if you could suck the McEwans stains out of her gusset. You might have got some abuse, you might have got a jump and she might have let your dog join in to stop his barking. Job done.
Heat of the moment, she made is personal by referring to your weight so you were well within your rights to call her a c*nt imo. 
To be honest she sounds like she needs a kick in the c unt

Tricky one this. If it was my street I think the barking dog would be receiving a poisoned meat pie anytime soon.
She obviously wants you, call round and smash her back doors in.

I don't swear in front of women and would certainly never use language like that in public.

Nothing wrong with an angry torrent of filthy language if it for a just cause.

Any if there are any come backs just explain that it is an old Anglo Saxon word for `sheath for the knife`
