Any fellow chit chatterers suffered with this. I'm just getting over it after 10 months of limping about.

One good thing was it made me take up bike riding again.

best treatment is Structural Integration (also known as Rolfing) - can fix it quickly

nasty condition - how did you get it?
Report twomatchpoints August 4, 2012 12:07 AM BST
Had it for about 10 years

I have hard rubber insoles in my boots to stretch my foot tendons

I understand they don't work for everybody but they do for me...for me

TMP

have a search for a good 'Rolfer' in your area - there aren't many around, but it is a highly effect long term fix

there are a few in London, won't be cheap but should fix it - ask for a satisfaction guarantee

I have no problem with the rubber inserts, and they were free from a hospital in London

I've had the problem for over 10 yrs - initially got relief from polyurathane inserts from Scholl. More recently despite the inserts had another episode. The problem has now eased after using softer inserts. Can now play golf 2 days on the run without any after pain - when I first got it, could barely walk after playing golf. Also able to do 40 mins on a treadmill without pain and very little discomfort the day after.

Pain can be chronic and you think it will never go away but it eventually does.

Thanks TMP and crystalhunt.
I did all the recommended excercises, not much improvement.
Bought insoles from scholl and memory foam heel pads, seemed to help more.
Then looked ont tinterweb and found this boot that your wear in bed that stretches the tendons overnight, that's been a big help.
Pain free at the mo, fingers crossed it stays away.

There are a few things that can help loads.  Firstly, get a golf ball and massage the bottom of your foot with it.  Just stand on it and roll your foot over it backwards and forwards.  For after exercise get a small plastic bottle, a normal coke bottle or something, fill it with water and put it in freezer.  Then when frozen roll your foot over it again for an ice massage.

Lastly, and most effective, is to use the Strassburg sock.  It's a weird looking thing but can cure it overnight.  It keeps your foot stretched at night which is where most of the healing takes place.  When you sleep and your body relaxes your foot will point down and 'shorten' your tendons and then during sleep when the healing process takes place your body heals in that shorten state.  As soon as you get up and put your feet on the floor they stretch and the healing is undone.  By keeping your foot stretched out your body heals in the proper way.  After 2 days of using this I've never had a problem since.

Good luck.

I'll have a look at that Granpa thanks, I wonder if it's similar to the boot I'm wearing. That hasn't worked overnight but over a period of maybe two months it's gradually eased the pain.

the strassburg sock is the answer, cleared mine up fairly quickly

"Rolfing" sounds like it should be a perverted sexual act. I was bitterly disappointed when I googled it.Sad

Mine comes and goes. Insoles and stretching exercises do help a lot, must keep up the exercises though or it will return.

Very painful.

Did you ignore the professional therapist nutjob's advice?

I bought some elasticated  supports at a pony a time, load of old pony they were as well.

Gel insoles and stretching exercises are the only things that help, imo, and in the opinion of my physio

Just signing into this support group!

Only had it for a few weeks and for now am following GP's advice.

Have been icing it regularly.  Was given loads of stretching exercises, but probably overdone them as more pain.

Have got shoes with better cushioning as well as gel inserts and insoles.

Don't know whether I should stop exercising to 'baby' the heel...may just do an hour walk or so a day.

Will consider Sock and Rolfing.

The already mentioned exercise using the golf ball worked for me-the advice came from a physio friend.

Sorted it out in a week-it is bloody painful when rolling the ball under your foot but it works
