Kenny, serious question mate. You know I detest cruelty to animals and although a dog person, I quite like cats and have rescued some from being drowned and taken in abandoned kittens in Winter and fed them until finding suitable owners. Anyway, this big black f****r which belongs to an adjacent neighbour, keeps coming into my garden and creates havoc. It sneaks up on the birds and has now decided to ruin my vegetable patch. It has flattened my Spring Onions and Carrotts and has started digging between my turnips and radishes. How can I deter it without causing the cat any harm?

Evening tmm.Very well done on your rescues in the past. I would place lots of orange peel all around your garden. It works a treat. Keep it there a month and puss won't come back.

The motion detecting water sprayers are supposed to be good - not too good if sprayed on your vegetable leaves in the sun though

Cheers kenny, I`ll get some oranges today and do that to save my veg.
PS. In past 10 years or so I reckon I have rescued 8 cats. Worst example, I was out a walk with dog one day and let it off leash for a run about. It made straight to pond and started barking, so I went to see what was wrong and there was a sack half submerged in water. When I recovered it there was 5 kittens in bag. Sadly 2 were dead and other 3 were near death and absolutely terrified. What kind of b****** would do this to helpless animal Kenny? Pleased to report that the 3 lived and after 3 months board and lodgings, I managed to get them good homes and they are well to this day, 5 years after event. Dog took to them and protected them as if her own, ![]() |

Thanks 666_v for advice too but I`ll give oranges a try first. Cheaper and edible

Brilliant tmm, well done. Pretty sure the oranges will work.

By:
Yeah, cats don't generally like citrus smells. You can buy citronella sticks especially for the job too

If it doesn't work don't worry. Oranges aren't the only fruit.
