fancy devon/ cornwall, anywhere to be honest, to rent a cottage/ even nice b and b , in a nice little village, newsagent , tea room, pub, and walking distance from a nice sandy beach.

Dover? I assume must be a wind-up - it's horrible. Go on Admiralty pier and watch all the illegal immigrants sharing a bong and spitting everywhere, with their kids tied to the railings as they try and catch their lunch over the side.
any seaside town north of Stratford upon avon with the excepion of whitby and maybe one or two coastal villages in the north east deserve to be shut down 
A fav of mine is Runswick Bay(the village at the bottom of the hill),just a few miles North of Whitby.Quaint place with no streets as such,just the odd path between the cottages.Decent enough little pub & cracking views out to sea.From Runswick(top of the hill)there's a pleasant walk along to Staithes which is another place with loads of character.The only trouble with this walk is it's a h ell of a climb up the field just out of Staithes on your way back.Top of the bank at Runswick there's a pub with a beer garden which is literally above the village at the bottom of the hill.A pint & a meal here on a sunny day & you couldn't be anywhere better in the world.
another place im looking for for winter, rural secluded spot, hotel, inn on the york moors, dartmoor etc, just like the place on sherlock holmes hound of the baskervilles with basil rathbone , miles from nowhere , ant suggestions, dont say dartmoor prison

back from fantastic week in cardiganshire west wales, just perfect stayed in really nice beach village aberporth, walk few miles on coastal path north is tresdaith again fantastic, then penbryn beach nat trust very picturesque, and then on to llangrannog, pub right on the beach called penlan, what view from the bar window.fancy coming back there in winter when sea is rough. on the last day we got up really early and travelled south couple of miles to mwnt, must be the most peaceful place on earth, with a fabulous cove, very old scenic church, dolphins in the water, it a place everyone should visit, make sure youve a picnic. dont expect arcades , bookies etc,if its a nice quiet holiday this is the area .fantastic choice elisjohn

well i reckon someone said llangrannog, , but many of the places recommended on here i plan to visit in the near future hopefully , i had been to llangrannog itself just for the day many years ago so knew that place was nice.

chippies, shops - smashing!

Shaldon in South Devon is great.Can catch the 2 minute boat to Teignmouth so no driving either.Absolutely fantastic.

Just got back today from a 2-nights stay in Robin Hood's Bay (I'm a poet and don't know it!) It is an absolute corker of a place and the peacefulness due to it being out-of-season made it even better. Can't wait to return.

Had a drink and Fish & Chips in the Bay Fri night. Nowt wrong wi either, but would have preferred mushies rather than petit pois. Moved on to Ye Dolphin. Beer ok but young lad serving was more interested in his phone than the customers. Then on to the Laurel Inn. Lovely atmo, roaring fire, good beer and good company. Locals also friendly. "Interesting" gents bog! T'other half (a Nottingham native) has been going at least once a year for over 25 years and has already left instructions that her ashes are to be scattered there. A wonderful place and could have spent many more hours exploring the alleyways. I live in the Yorkshire Dales and thought I was lucky, but RHB is a place apart.

To the left of the Villa is the house I grew up in, aged 6-14 - Stormville. To the right is the house my family have lived in ever since, Ingleside! I was there just ten days ago! Yeah the Dolphin staff aren't always all that, but the folk night is amazing. Went there once with my friend, an american fillipinno singer (!), and she sang Amazign Grace, and a bloke accompanied her on...bagpipes. The Laurel is just special! That big is a delight, as is the snug.
At xmas, in the Grosvener, I got told without hesitation to feck right off because they were closing. Then they worked out I was local. Was there another four hours!

We scattered my dad's ashes there last year, or rather at the top of 'sledgates', at his request. Probably the windiest place in Britain. The ****!

You very lucky sparky a beautiful place . The hours i spent there rockpooling challanges with my sons and the youngests shouts of delight when he finds something unique can never be beaten .
Runswick bay is also special, was there on Armistice day in the afternoon and for a while no one else around, lovely .

though i live not too far away, but i stumbled across a gem , near porthmadog, a little place called borth y gest. beautiful

On the Monday we will be taking that famous Dawlish sea wall coastal train from Exmouth into Newton Abbot and spend the afternoon at the races. Should be nice if the weather holds up.

wells nxt sea on the north norfolk coast is stunning. beautiful beach, perfect harbour, beautiful little place with about 14 pubs, 200 tea rooms and no superdry shirts. the accents a bit **** and the locals are all related, but its postcard stuff
im thinking of doing a uk tour down the west , visiting Exmoor, clovelly,bodmin,st ives,penzance, sennen cove, salacombe,dartmoor, bit of coast and country.any excellent b/b , inns hotels on the route recommended
A great way of enjoying the south west is taking in some stages of the south west coastal path.
I do like walking Bodmin Moor. Really feels like you ae in the middle of nowhere. Finding The Cheesewring in the fog is a wonder, as is the meal afterwards at the pub of the same name. In fact, just love Cornwall.

went to salcombe last year when staying in devon, thought it was full of posh people , with public school ankle biters , nice place if it was in the north. expensive too.
why do we go away, ive got the best holiday place 30 mins away, its bonkers isn't it
^ not everyone lives in nice areas of the UK ... if you do then the need to get away isn't so great .
most folk go away for different reasons ..if you live in the north of England then a cheap resort in Spain is the natural choice for a lower end market holiday .
South of England folk like to trot over on camping holidays to France to get away from that lot ^

Not exactly a village,more a small town but I love Swanage.Lovely beach,if you like that sort of thing,but for me it's the coastal scenery and walks,local nature reserves(RSPB at Arne,also Durlston which has some amazing geological presentations).It's an area of 'outstanding natural beauty' and a 'World Heritage Site'.The town has a number of very good restaurants.If you're interested check out The Castleton Hotel B&B and thank me later if you ever go there.

been checking out some really nice hotels in st ives, st Austell area today, god some want near £400 a day for a family of 3 coz of school holidays, bloody ridiculous. the corbis bayhotel looks nice, plus Stanton sands in devon, but too dear

There's actually a little place in the south west where they do just that to a grand hotel. Was the setting for an Agatha Christie novel.

yes burgh island hotel around 400 quid a night, bed and breakfast no dinner, tides reach is right near by looks nice and has a tractor to take you to salacombe.
That's it 'Pack O' Cards' = 4 floors,13 rooms and 52 windows ? Won in a card game hundreds of years ago ?

I seem to remember that Combe Martin claims to have the longest High Street in Britain.

Watermouth cove is lovely. We stayed in the area a few years ago.
We stayed at Little Meadow Campsite. A fantastic place to stay with stunning coastal views.

Combe Martin - not far from Ilracombe/Woolacombe - do they allow dogs on these beaches ?
I dont think you dogs are allowed on any decent beaches in the summer.

I was thinking of Woolcombe and did think that we had our dog on the beach by the sand dunes....but looking at the above info, we must have got off by the stream (and had a drink in the pub right next to it, if I remember rightly....
'To enable us here at Woolacombe to comply with Blue Flag and Seaside Award criteria, dogs are not allowed between the rocks at the north end of the beach and the stream from Good Friday or 1st April (whichever is earliest) until the first Monday in November. This is a very small area in comparison to the size of the beach. '

I was surprised too Jack when I was there without our dog in June.
Went back in July with the dog and although they say it is a small area, it is really quite big, and is fine.

I think they mean the non-dog area is small. I think you can take dogs all along the beach for miles towards Putsborough.
