Buckie is over £7 a bottle so isnt affected, this price rise is great news

Scotland has an unpoliced border. Wouldn't warehouses pop up on the A roads out of Scotland a mile or so into England?

what would be the point... AFAIK the minimum price is for the point of sale, so retailers would get no benefit.

consumers could cross the border and save a couple of quid but it would be cancelled out by the price of the petrol.

Retailers would get the benefit of shifting more stock wouldn't they? The more stock they move, in theory, the more profit they would make.

As for travel costs, it would depend on the scale of it. Jocks may get the day trip to Calais bug that affected many men of Kent

They might be able to buy a case of beer for £5 just now, and it shouldnt be affected by this law.

So a different supplier would make no difference.

I could be wrong but that's the gist I got of this as it's been an ongoing discussion for a few years in Scotland.

It's a new story to me, so there might be something I've missed

I was working on the basis that if you lived in say Gretna, it might be worth walking down the road (& across the border) and picking up 4 litres of Diamond White

If you lived a bit further out, it might be worth 5 of you taking a mates transit and buckling it's axles with Frosty Jack

Our governments seem to have a tendency to ATTEMPT to solve a problem by punishing all - guilty and innocent. This cannot be fair - the poor and those who do not sin are being fined for the mis-behaviours of the guilty few.
The way to deal with offenders is to deal with the offenders ONLY.
This is like fining everyone for speeding rather than just the law-breakers.
IT STINKS!

yep, anyone v.close to the border may save a couple of quid. but retailers will have a set minimum price (which will probably be higher than now) regardless of how cheap they get their stock so cant really take advantage.

tesco a few years back were doing 3x24 cases of beer for £20 around new years. I think this law is meant to stamp out these kind of deals.
