Good show, but should be half an hour.  Sooooo much filler.  They get some good contestants on.

Apply online fill in an application, take your time doing it, the application form is the most important process imo, if its filled in right your get to the interview stage & then your stand a real chance of getting on.

Richard tries far too hard to be funny, spoils the show, for me.
Report rob_dylan April 21, 2012 6:40 AM BST
I like both presenters and think it is a v good show, like the format.
Report MisterBadger April 21, 2012 6:54 AM BST
excellent show imo, I would imagine the ratings are huge, even though it goes head to head with the chase

Surprised no one has come with the following  game :-

The pointless thread game

Each player picks 3 threads making a note of the number of replies / views.

After a week, The winner is the one who's choices of threads has the least replies / views

No point me suggesting it as I am ignored in these parts.

I like Pointless.
Occasionally home for full programme but usually see last half.

thought it was a quiz not the 2 ronnies?

However, think the best thing about pointless in my opinion is the counter.

I prefer The Chase. I'd be interested to know which one pulls in the most viewers. I think AA is very good too but find the early round questions too easy and boring.
Report metal_micky_3_legs April 21, 2012 2:16 PM BST
Just ignore my idea... but could lead to some proper fun and games with viewing and posting on each others threads.
Report metal_micky_3_legs April 21, 2012 2:18 PM BST
Should I explain slowly in case you are in love with the main sh1t shat contenders?
Report History Maker April 21, 2012 2:23 PM BST
I'd be interested to know which one pulls in the most viewers.

I'm not sure, but I do know that both are considered ratings winners in that they've both improved audience figures in the timeslot compared to what was on before.

I Sky+ Perfection, Pointless and Eggheads, and watch The Chase on the iPlayer. I also Sky+ University Challenge and Only Connect.

Can't stand Mastermind though. The specialist subject round is both dull, and unfair. I'll happily tune in halfway through.

University Challenge and Only Connect are my favourites, although UC would be a clear winner if OC wasn't presented by Victoria Coren. Took a while to get myself into the mindset for Only Connect - the first time I saw it, I don't think I got a single question. I'm a bit of a guesser at University Challenge - and a good one, but if I was actually on the show, I'd be rubbish because of incorrect interruptions. Find the early rounds easy - the first time I watched it with one girlfriend, she proudly said that she was happy if she got ten right, and I proceeded to get the first three starters and all nine bonuses right (pretty flukey - she was half impressed, half horrified by the smug look on my face). I tend to find the final and semi-finals very difficult though.

I like the format of Pointless, and its buddyish atmosphere. Some questions I hate though, predominantly those that have a small fixed number of relatively obvious answers, and the players have to guess which will score lowest - there was a question on the colours of Trivial Pursuit subject categories at some point this week. People who've played it a couple of times will probably know them all, and those that haven't won't care.

The Chase is good but Walsh has a flaw in that his diction in the timed rounds simply isn't clear enough. He's quite good otherwise - has pretty good banter. Classic moment from The Chase where he completely loses the plot...

Eggheads is fine, but I always get the feeling that the Eggheads are bowled the odd soft one.

The only one with a dodgy format is Perfection. I don't like the way in which Fowles skips over ones that the contestants have got wrong in the final, because it doesn't add to the air of tension at all. He should just go down the list, with the proviso that he skip the ones that are changed by the usual suspects until the end. I'd also make a little change in that when the topics for the final are picked, the contestants can choose which slot they go into on the board. The level of questions themselves is quite well pitched though.

Forgot about Cleverd*cks

Like it, but Ann Widdecombe is an astonishing choice of presenter.

^good point

HM, why don't you have a go at the some of the quizzes held in nibbsy's gaff one evening? they are good fun and if we can get the QM to get his timing right there usually a bit of good banter... we could do with a few new faces as well  Happy
Report rob_dylan April 21, 2012 8:11 PM BST
Agreed, have a look at the nibbs quiz thread, all newcomers welcome, especially if they can knock some of the big boys off their fkin perch
Report liamcol April 21, 2012 9:06 PM BST
Those quizzes you did rob, were quite similar, I liked those.
e.g. ten most populated countries, you would score 1 for china obviously, but the idea was to try and get near to the tenth, without going over, yes they were good.
Report rob_dylan April 21, 2012 9:13 PM BST
I used to call them pointless style quizzes, later just top ten style quizzes.  Yes I liked compiling them and think I would've liked to have a go at taking part on them myself.  Always gave the chance of people getting a ten pointer sometimes if they took a risk.  Was difficult to come up with decent questions in the end, and scoring was a nightmare, even nibbsvision struggled.
Report liamcol April 21, 2012 9:18 PM BST
Yes, i know what you mean re the scoring.
I always tried for the ten pointer ones and would seethe when finding out i had picked the 11th or 12th, they were really good though, made you think, rather than just "know' something.
If Nibbs can set one up on his site, I would be up for a go.
Report utc April 21, 2012 9:19 PM BST
Agree about some of the questions on Pointless.  Some are very narrow and specialised and seem a bit unfair on some of the contestants.  Also I'm sure the 100 they ask are fairly old judging by the answers which are popular - some are just astonishing.

Not a fan of some of the new rounds on the new series.  The picture round seems particularly unnecessary.
Report pumphol. April 23, 2012 11:08 AM BST
Problem with Pointless is they are  now struggling to find decent questions imo, probably the reason they keep tweaking the format, many of those picture questions could not be asked unless a picture is shown, in other words they are struggling with content, answers have come up more than once because the question has been asked in a different way, think they are making 80 programmes for the next series Shocked
In time I doubt the quality of the questions can be maintained without more tweaking.
