1 million or more africans, every year, whoever the pope happens to be

He'll win a proper serial killers competition in a canter
Report abolo April 18, 2012 3:19 PM BST
I studied it a bit while in uni. My favourite cases was the police officer Gerard Schaefer (34 victims), the police friendly Edmund Kemper (10), the nice guy helping his nanny Jeffrey Dahmer (17), and the family father Gary Ridgway (49 victims) who was known as the Green River Killer before to be arrested after a 18 years investigation. I was interested by the ability of these people to hide to anybody included their family who they was really.
Now years have passed, chid and all that, i lost interest.

Shipman for me

Not only amassed a double century score before being caught at slip,  but a man of medicine to boot
Report abolo April 18, 2012 3:27 PM BST
Jack the Ripper, fascinating too, yes. The Victorian London and all that

What'd you mean Dahmer was a nice guy helping his nanny? I know his story, i dont recall that part
Report aman201 April 18, 2012 3:29 PM BST
Zodiac killer is interesting too.

The whole interacting with the media/police was class.

helping them die isnt exactly killing them

Who does that relate to?
Report xmoneyx April 18, 2012 3:33 PM BST
shipman
Report 718 April 18, 2012 3:36 PM BST
I think for anyone to 'help' someone to die they have to have the patients consent.

The investigation into Shipman's practice began after relatives of Mrs. Grundy, a former mayoress and respected charity worker from Hyde, near Manchester, discovered that she had left nothing in her will to her two sons and her daughter. The will had been changed only 15 days before her death. Dr Shipman is charged with falsely obtaining cash and possessions from Mrs. Grundy's estate, the will had been altered in Shipman's favour, to the tune of £386,000.

@ aman

In 1982, Dahmer moved with his grand mother Catherine, in Milwaukee, 57th street. His grand mother found him a job with the help of the local church! He's quickly fired and spend then 2 years to help his grand mother. He will find then a job in 1985. He will leave her house in 1988. He killed 4 men in this period, some in the house.
Reading again the story, he was not exactly a nice guy though. Heavy alcoholic and masturbating himself in front of children
Report 718 April 18, 2012 3:47 PM BST
xmoneyx - He wouldn't, if memory serves, discuss the murders too much but apparently he got a 'buzz' out of it

I don't think any of his victims realised that Dr Shipman's was not a healing touch

Yes i always found funny the idea of serial killer living with his grand mother, mowing the lawn and caring her bags from the supermarket. But really, it isn't. Sick man. She complained from a strange smell coming from his room. Of course, there was a corpse there

John Bunting the aussie killer. Been a film out called Snowtown detailing his shenanigans but I saw a drama/documentary about him and his pals on youtube before that, and boy he was one cruel, cruel tinker.

IIRC, he put u sparkler-firework up some victim's penis. It stung, i could yell by the amount of 'ouches' uttered.

Interesting thread this. Never thought I'd ever see Sutcliffe described as 'The Bearded Legend', and top the personal charts of one ChitChatter, but maybe I've lived a sheltered life.

It got me thinking though, in this media-savvy age where various public/notorious figures have 'brands' or 'images' to protect, it's a wonder that various criminals haven't tried to re-brand themselves with nicer nicknames.

There would certainly more than enough PR cretins willing to assist, eagerly assisted by chancer lawyers insisting that broadcasters refer to their client Sutcliffe as maybe 'The Bearded Wonder' as opposed to The Yorkshire Ripper.

Any more?

Report abolo April 18, 2012 10:22 PM BST
It's all the fault of the late 19th-century London newspapers who invented the nickname Jack the Ripper in these fake letters, it was more catchy than the previous "Withechapel murderer" and "Leather Apron" . They are the first to have made a business based on murder, but hey everybody needs to eat

I maintain that Harold 'Dr Death' Shipman with his huge score (200+) is the daddy of this sort of thing

1) He was a 4king doctor! The abuse of position & trust is unsurpassed
2) No-one knew he was doing it except him - hardly a publicity seeker ( I think this is a factor in driving some of them)
3) The quantity is incredible. I'm guessing he wasn't stopping until someone stopped him
4) Didn't explain or elaborate - although mentioned it gave him 'a buzz'

Report charwell. May 23, 2012 1:45 PM BST
I will plump for an all ways tri-cast:

1) Jack the Ripper - The Whodunnit to end all whodunnits

2) The Zodiac Killer - Had the cops running round like headless chickens & his nickname is pretty good

3) John Wayne Gacy - The clown killer. Brutal but got away with it for a long time. Never liked or trusted clowns since I found out about this physco.

In the event of a Non Runner I will throw in the infamous Wests. As thick as pig sh1t but a Britolian accent that would somehow ease having a cup of tea with them.
