I will be travelling for a few weeks whilst I research where to live until this winter but I have had to leave my desk top and so far have not purchased a laptop, which I will be doing soon. If I always log out are they safe? I do not have an internet bank but have several gambling sites with money in them. I probably will not use them but would have to use my email account for various things.
I am destroying my hard disk in a short while so would appreciate a speedy answer

The simple is NO. They're not safe.
It's very easy for keyloggers to be installed which send information remotely without the internet cafe being aware.
Having said that, I've used internet cafes on a few occasions for emails and even Betfair without any problem.
But I've always changed my passwords at the next safe opportunity

I have decided against destroying my hard disk myself as I think I will ruin the computer. So I will be taking it tomorrow to a repair shop for them to do it for me.

I wrote that just before leaving greater london for the south coast to investigate where I wanted to live. I have now been been settled for over five years but still think of moving again! Are you still in worthing? I looked at worthing on my travels along the coast.
