If this legislation genuinely affects you, you must be
a)a current or past member of AA b)encouraged to join AA |
By:
Or c) under sixteen!

I was expecting a bit of a backlash on here, but, presumably, they are not up yet.

Could be a nice little earner, when the kids are hustling outside the shop, for someone
to buy smokes and cider. Seeing that money has no value to them, as it was probably "nicked" from their mum's purse in any case, they would hand over a tenner for the cider alone! Now don't get me wrong on this one. As a 'pillock of society' I obviously wouldn't be involved. ![]() |

dont forget that the greggs sausage rolls will be going up too. but the rise in drug taking will shoot up because of the rise in white lightning .
By:
i hope the welsh assembly dont put it up, wales could become the capital of the uk for cheap booze. And tourism to would increase with all the english/scotish seeking out cheap booze holidays in wales.
By:
ps, we will still charge you 5p for a carrier bag to carry it in.

The young teenagers will turn to another cheaper drug. They will always find away of getting a buzz.
You cant price kids out of anti social behaviour. Directional change is needed. A feel good factor with more opportunities to expand their potential. |
By:
^^^ yes, but them mp's who get p!ssed up on cheap booze in the house of commons bar dont get it.

The numerous bars and cafés in the Houses of Parliament are to start charging £3.05 for a pint of Stella – up from the previous price of £2.40 but still considerably cheaper than tariffs in most central London pubs.
A pint of Becks is to rise from £2.20 to £2.90, as will a pint of Guinness. The move has been greeted with dismay by MPs. One senior Labour MP, who did not wish to be named, said: "It's scandalous. "I'm stuck in London doing a public service job and now they want to raise the price of my well-deserved pint by almost 50 per cent." |
By:
If Camera-on really wanted to try and stop binge drinking he'd pass a law that supermarkets can't sell it, not put the price up.
By:
Is the minimum price extra profit for the supermarket or the government?
By:
Well it certainly won't be for the manufacturer, who will be well stuffed whatever, and profit for the retailer would be ridiculous, and it can't be VAT so it has to be duty (in the same way that cigarettes are taxed)!
Not sure as to the mechanics of how this is accounted for! |
By:
In the end it's just another lie, by the money grabbing b@stards, to claw in money to support all of their
failed policies in other areas! Wouldn't it be fantastic if the taxpayer could make a complete mess of running his household, and just press a few buttons and all is well, till next time? Can anyone predict what other commodities will be hit next? |
By:
will it affect beer or spirits? havent drank cider in ages so it may not ffect me
By:
will effect all. the extra money made will go to the supermarkets, only the extra vat will go to the government
By:
Will affect beer and spirits too and directly or indirectly will push up the price of all alcohol.
If white lightning now costs the same as Strongbow etc they aren't going to be paying all that money on advertising creating a brand image in order to be considered as 'budget' cider. And when they put their price up the designer/premium ciders e.g Magners will do the exact same to mantain their role in the market. Same for beer/spirits etc. |
By:
Absolute bullshit to say only the dossers who drink vile cheap pish will be affected. Just more profit for big business.
By:
they say they announced it to take attention away from the budget
but seem to have upset even more people especially us champagne swilling west london toffs so the wine drinking middle classes will bitch about it and so will the chavs and bimbo bingers seems like a real GREAT move again ha ha but won't affect real ale prices in the pubs thank goodness |
By:
Surely a great deal more low paid people drink peacefully in the comfort of their own hovel than go out causing mayhem and violence?Seems deeply unfair to me.
By:
thats where i think they have made a big vote loosing mistake ha ha!!!!
I am sure you are aware that serving someone with alcohol who is believed to be drunk is illegal landlords are entitled within the law to refuse also to serve that might be a start if clubs started to do that!!!! |
By:
Landlords want business though moisok. Silly 18 year old girls spending 50 quid a round on alco pops and after shocks is dreamland profits for bars and clubs. Profit over progress every time.
There could be a montering system on alcohol quotas in bars and clubs. Very difficult to police though. |
By:
Said low paid people can be monitored and protected in a pub...it's at home they're likely to get seriously drunk...and THEN go out and cause problems.

Cannabis is the polar opposite of alcohol..
Let them get stoned it would be much more peaceful world. The only time they would go out on a weekend would be to get some munchies. Stupid mentality we have against cannabis. It is creative and peaceful. |
By:
*bi-polar opposite.
I've barely used, but the heavy users I've known had only one thing in common, being desperate bores. That said, I agree, nothing like the social dmage alcohol causes. A lot of the users I've known had problems, but it's possible cannabis was as much the solution as the cause. My life they were tiresome though. |

Alcohol is a depressent, also a with violent symptoms. Cannabis can cause psychosis, Horses for courses everything in moderation. The biggest problem in this country is that a huge number of people want to numb their senses by getting wrecked because they aint happy otherwise. |
