Despite numerous complaints eBay continue to turn a blind eye to this shameful activity.  The paragraphs printed below have been copied from another forum.

There are a multitude of illegal sales of ivory objects on eBay. Besides their stated policy being ignored, international and federal laws are being broken. Here is how this scam work: after the so called ban in 2008 of almost all ivory objects on eBay, sellers cleverly started using code words as key search words to get the attention of the ivory buyers. The most common term used…ox bone.

Sellers knew the buyers would recognize the items as real ivory from the fine grained composition and uniform color. Ox bone, on the other hand, is shard-like and displays pronounced color variation and is never used in China or Japan for fine carving. Since eBay turned a blind eye to this, it has gone viral on the auction site. At this moment there are almost 9000 listings for ox bone, most items really being ivory. I have made many reports to eBay about specific auctions and almost all are NOT stopped. The money involved here is in the millions of dollars and facilitating this is a major U.S. corporation that was supposed to be monitored by such groups as the Humane Society of the U.S. and the IFAW.

Whenever one sends an email from within the eBay site the option of send a copy to my personal email address is offered as a tick box.

This usually works perfectly... except when complaining about the illegal selling of ivory.  These emails never arrive.  I suspect they are just deleted.

Just resurrecting this thread to make folks on here aware of Ebay's despicable role in the ivory trade.

I have complained on literally hundreds of occasions, pointing out examples of ivory billiard balls being advertised and sold as bovine products.  I have never received a single reply and no listing has been removed.  Not once.  Ebay's complicity is this practice is disgusting, a single ball often sells for well into three figures.  Cow bone it ain't.

If you're of a similar mind, please make your feelings known to ebay.
