Used to be totally dominated by US blacks, but has totally changed in recent years. Now, the top two in the world are the Klitschco brothers from Ukraine and most of the rest of the top 10 are made up of 2 Russians, 1 Brit, I Pole, 1 Finn 1 Nigerian and just 2 Americans. What's changed?

For a start, communist countries (like the U.S.S.R.) didn't let their boxers turn professional.

Which is why Teofilio Stevenson (Cuba) kept winning gold medals at the Olympics.

The 3 big American Sports overtook them and are much better promoted with more scholarships on offer in comparison to Boxing. boxing gyms numbers have also declined.

There's more martial arts sports that have risen in popularity and competition as well.

I can't see American Boxing rising up again in the heavyweight division any time soon, Wilder is 31 thinks he is the best in the world but has fought absolute nobodies. I don't think the hunger is their anymore, I would hazard a guess a lot of these big American Sports stars could have been boxers themselves.
