I think the term 'friend' is used very losely. I'm travelling at the moment and people I meet sometimes add me, and are never to be heard from again.

I suppose if I added everyone in my social/family/work networks plus people I meet when at conferences or on a course, on holiday etc, I might get up to that sort of number.
But then why would you want to give virtual strangers access to your personal info?

I use Twitter from time to time to keep up with various matters of interest to me. I think I follow about 75 accounts which means I'm seeing messages pretty frequently.
If you've got 250 friends on FB, you must be inundated with updates and messages.

You don't, pretty sure the only personal info I have is my name. Some people like to detail their entire life though and make comments on every single thing that happens

Crazy having 250. If you have privacy settings on friends of friends then that could easily mean you could have over 20,000 people with access to your photos and posts which given the amount of people that constantly post pics of their kids/babies that's pretty worrying .
