Dozens of posts seem to have gone missing, causing this thread to fall off the bottom of the page.

I used to have a signed copy of this Willie Smith book, sold it on the bay a few years ago. The inscription cites record breaks in manchester and australia and his number of breaks over 1000.
http://www.cuesnviews.co.uk/Books/Graphics/bookbilliardsineasystages_sm.jpg Our working mens club rules still allow someone wanting to play billiards to kick off any one playing snooker on one of the tables, and to wipe the blackboard clean for any waiting names. |

3 cushion billiards is played on a table with no pockets. To make a canon you have to play your white ball onto one of the other balls then bounce off at least 3 cushions before hitting the other ball to complete the canon. One of the most impressive things I've seen.
Here's the table. . http://www.philseed.com/images/jag-mk9p.jpg |

^ Very impressive. How do you stop the balls denting the paintwork?

If the table owner has a tantrum does he drive off and take it home?

Mozart was said to be the best billiards player in Europe at the time. When he died, the only valuable objects he owned were his billiards table and his piano.

Bounce off the cushions with the white ball or the first ball you strike?

Knight Commander:
I agree, sir. Three-cushion-billiards is the most beautiful and elegant of all cue sports in my opinion. In addition to your explanation, above, it is worth noting that a scoring cannon can also be achieved by striking one or more of the required three cushions before your cueball makes contact with the object ball. |
|
By:
In other words, your cueball could strike cushion one, cushion two, cushion three, and then the object balls immediately after one another and this still counts as a scoring visit.

Here's a clip of the late, great Sang Lee scoring a remarkable 29 in just two visits.
Truly a billiards genius. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxrWpRlN9Y4&feature=related |

Anybody new to three-cushion-billiards who watches the clip posted above would be forgiven in thinking the game was easy.
I'm a big admirer of Rocket Ronnie's formidable prowess on the green baize; he's the best snooker player there has ever been in my personal opinion. Fantastically gifted. Believe me when I tell you, however, this man's skill overshadows Ronnie O'Sullivan's talents by some margin. |

POssibly the most boring thing I've ever seen, and I've watched 'Lost in Translation'
|
|
By:
As my grandad used to say, "it was so boring it could've drilled an **** in a rocking horse."
Sorry you didn't like it, fellow PM. I find the game, when played to this standard anyway, so beautiful as to be almost hypnotic. |
|
By:
I appreciated the skill, but I found it very dull.
However, each to there own and it would be sad if everyone were the same. |

A rare still from the 1971 movie, The Player, featuring Minnesota Fats.

I'm dismayed by the puritanical view being taken by the moderators lately.
They keep disapproving images which, for the life of me, I cannot see how anyone could find offensive. They are all in much the same style as the photograph below; a series of advertisements I ran in Pot Black snooker magazine in the 1990s. A bit risqué maybe, but surely not offensive. ![]() |

It's frustrating that you're being denied your pictures, PM, because threads on Betfair appear nowhere near the top of Google searches - even when specifying 'betfair forum' within the search. So what chance of little Timmy happening here, and seeing a bit of bosom or thigh? It's just not going to happen. You'd have to know about this thread and specifically search for it, to find it and be offended. Ludicrous
decision-making by Betfair. You can have racism and derogatory name-calling by the bucket-load, but a bit of flesh? No. [smiley:crazy] |

I'll drink to that, VQ.

Don't see why you can't just post them somewhere else TBH

Because it's war, PM, and all semblance of common sense has long since left the building.
It has become a matter of principle I suppose: a fight against the tyranny of censorship; a crusade against those who would deny... oh, forget it. http://postimage.org/image/2t2qv1kdg/ |

Anyone think the man on the right in the movie still, above, looks a lot like a young Alex Higgins?

An American man has built a giant pool table in his backyard. The spots and stripes on the felt are actually bowling balls.
