I knew he was at the hospital.

The hospital? What is it?

A big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Lt. Frank Drebin: Miss, I'm Lt. Frank Drebin, and this is Captain Ed Hocken, Police Squad.

Busty Female Shop Assistant: Is this some kind of bust?

Lt. Frank Drebin: Well... it's very impressive, yes, but we need to ask you a few questions.

fRANK: Well, when I see five weirdos, dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the b@st@rds, that's *my* policy!

MAYOR: That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of 'Julius Caesar,' you moron! You killed five actors! Good ones!

A very funny man in films and also in the TV programme Police Squad.

Most people think he was an american, but he was born in Canada. One of his brother was Deputy Prime Minster.

Epilogues - Police Squad - happy memories LaughLaughLaugh

This is Frank Drebin, Police Squad. Throw down your guns, and come on out with your hands up. Or come on out, then throw down your guns, whichever way you wanna do it. Just remember the two key elements here: one, guns to be thrown down; two, come on out! LaughLaugh

The more I think about him the funnier he gets.  I don't know who was behind it all, who decided to create this persona for him but he did it brilliantly.  Can't think of anyone it was a copy of - definitely a case of the actor adding to the humour by his delivery.

I hardly rate any US comedy but he's defo one I do rate.

Like many other character actors, he was picked for 'Airplane!' because the film's creators, Jim Abrahams, Jerry and David Zucker, thought the jokes would be funnier if they were delivered by serious actors playing it completely straight. 'Airplane!', which parodied the 1970s 'Airport' disaster films, is regarded as one of the best spoof movies.

Extract from the above link, why he along with many others were picked for Airplane

Without a doubt one of the funniest men ever on screen. Not many comedy performances will ever surpass his in Airplane! and Police Squad

"There'd been a series of gorgeous fashion models found naked and unconscious on the West Side. Unfortunately, I was assigned to investigate holdup's at neighbourhood credit unions"

"We think we know how he did it"
"Howie couldn't have done it he hasn't been in for weeks"

"I'm sorry to bother you at a time like this Mrs Twice. We would have come earlier but your husband wasn't dead then"

Each time I watch that Airplane film I see a new joke, very funny. My favourite scene was the wholesome young lady playing a guitar and cutting the life support of the patient behind her flailing his arms about in death throes while they were all singing away !
