As a kid i hated gravy on my dinner, always liked it dry. Now i love gravy, different taste buds i suppose. Just eaten a nice roast beef with all the trimmings. [:p]
Not long until Christmas and a plethora of threads about people feeling ripped off by various catering establishments because of a difference of opinion about the definition of this phrase.
I can hardly wait!

"Gravy made from well-done beef has been shown to contain heterocyclic amines, which are potentially carcinogenic in humans."
Dry for me please.
"Some heterocyclic amines (HCAs) found in cooked meat are known carcinogens. Research has shown that cooking certain meats at high temperatures creates chemicals that are not present in uncooked meats. For example, heterocyclic amines are the carcinogenic chemicals formed from the cooking of muscle meats such as beef, pork, fowl, and fish."
On second thoughts, maybe I'll just have a cheese salad.
Thanks anyway.

Couldn't imagine roast dinner without gravy. My grandad never had gravy with his meat, even turkey - the driest of all meats. Used to dread going there for sunday dinner. Gravy and roast meat just seems so right.

I'm looking for that thread too as talking elsewhere on the subject.
I seem to recall that the poster went to a pub for "Roast beef and all the trimmings and it was £7.50.
When it came it was Beef, Gravy, Roast Potatoes and Carrots.
Not a "trimming" in sight and when he complained the landlord was abusive.

I recall the new pastor at the church moved with his family from Lancashire, and my sister and I were friendly with his son and daughter.
We were invited for lunch and it was horrendous. Imagine pastry and overcooked meat in a pie, with no gravy, and it was just impossible to swallow it.
To compound the felony, you weren't even allowed a drink till you finished.

Roast belly of pork being prepared and yes, plenty of gravy is in order. It's not an "all the trimmings" night though, just roast tatties, cabbage and asparagus. Anyway that aside, does anyone know what happened to larrence? He was a regular poster on here and horse racing for many years but has been m.i.a. for ages. Really decent bloke and a Palace fan to boot, I hope he is OK.

Those little concentrated stock pots are brilliant. Put one in with flour, stock from veg and pan juices and it makes a delicious gravy. Using wine also helps the flavour, I'm surprised no-one has made a wine flavour stock pot as it would be a good idea for the Dragon's Den.

The 'Humane Slaughter' Myth

Between January 2009 and April 2011, Animal Aid filmed secretly inside nine UK slaughterhouses. Eight were breaking animal welfare laws. Slaughterhouse Suffering Campaign Resources
Between 2009 and 2011, Animal Aid filmed secretly inside nine randomly chosen British slaughterhouses. We found evidence of cruelty and lawbreaking in eight of them. The problems are serious and widespread. Our films revealed animals being kicked, slapped, stamped on, and picked up by fleeces and ears and thrown into stunning pens. We recorded animals being improperly stunned and going to the knife while still conscious. We filmed animals deliberately and illegally beaten and pigs burned with cigarettes.
Even where no laws were broken, animals still suffered pain and fear. And ‘high welfare’ plants, such as those accredited by the Soil Association and Freedom Food, were no better than the standard ones, and were guilty of breaches of the welfare laws. Animal Aid believes that whether ‘conventional’, organic, kosher or halal, all slaughter is unnecessary and immoral, and the only way to prevent such suffering is to go vegan.
sheep taken to slaughter in a wheelbarrow How Can I Help?
Choose an animal-free diet. There is no kind way to slaughter animals, and the best way to prevent their suffering is not to eat them. Animal Aid is here to help and advise anyone wishing to adopt a more compassionate diet. The slaughter industry is demanding less external regulation, even though Animal Aid’s investigations show it cannot be trusted to obey the law. Please help us campaign for mandatory CCTV in all UK slaughterhouses by ordering campaign postcards from info@animalaid.co.uk. Write a letter to your local newspaper about slaughterhouse cruelty. Let its readers know that Animal Aid can send a free Go Veggie and Vegan pack to anyone who requests one. Urge family and friends to watch our film, and and circulate it on Facebook and Twitter. Make a donation to help us continue our investigations
pig screams out when slaughterman gives him a painful body stun Campaign Achievements
Animal Aid is the only organisation to have revealed what is truly going on inside typical UK slaughterhouses. This is what our investigation has achieved so far:
Two men were jailed for cruelty to animals at Cheale Meats after they beat and burned pigs. Our campaign for CCTV to be installed in slaughterhouses has been accepted by the supermarkets. The ten largest – Morrisons, Waitrose, the Co-op, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, Asda, Marks & Spencer and Iceland – along with wholesalers Booker, have now agreed to deal only with slaughterhouses that have independently monitored CCTV cameras installed. Essex slaughterhouse A&G Barber Ltd closed down when its customers saw, through our secretly-filmed footage, how bad conditions were.

The campaign to reveal what takes place behind closed doors in British abattoirs began in January 2009 when we planted fly-on-the-wall cameras in JV Richards, a Cornish slaughterhouse. This was quickly followed by investigations at AC Hopkins in Somerset and Pickstock in Derbyshire. You're like some rabid ex-40-a-day smoker moaning to all and sundry about the evils of tobacco when they've given up smoking.
Can we please try to have at least one funny thread on here, or should we all just pack it up altogether?

You just expect everyone to like what you like and say no more about it if they disagree with you.

Yet another thread hijacked by that insidious. preaching bore aka Kenny mann..
Why does everything descend down to animal cruelty jibes? I remember you saying you eat chicken and also admit to wearing leather. What a pious, evangelical hypocrite.
You don't eat meat; fine, your choice and we get it. But leave your brain washing and boring soap box sermons out for the rest of us please. I am sure if anyone is remotely interested in some cherry picked anti meat videos they know who to ask!
Oh and lots of thick gravy over a lovely piece of meat takes some beating

Then he makes half a joke and along comes Tommy (also predictably) to say how funny that was. It wasn't! So blame the Chuckle Brothers, not me.

ha ha. Lighten up Kenny. Surely, even by your own admission, you are a self righteous pr1ck when it comes to all these videos and stuff. I even signed one of your petitions now I get loads of emails from these animal rights agencies. And your dinner DID sound revolting. Anyway you're alright in my book at the end of the day.
As an aside, I reckon 3 or 4 days a week I don't eat any meat. I think we could all benefit from eating a little less meat.

I have been serving up plates of butter - along with copious amounts of 'proper' gravy - to the Irish just recently.
The gravy has gone down far better - chicken gravy or not.

I really don't understand why someone could be so vociferous - and interrupt so many threads with constant videos etc of things you won't watch yourself - when he's been happily scoffing meat for 64 years before.

Chaps, there are far more important things to worry about. I'll give you some good news, my Ma has been discharged from King's College Hospital after spending 7 weeks in intensive care so she will have Christmas with the family at her home which was huge odds against awhile back. So happy right now you would not believe

As an aside; I was in a pub yesterday in the late afternoon/early evening which specialises in carvery meals, every day, for such and such a price.
Three women had acquired their roast dinners at about 5:45pm and sat just across from where I was sitting. I've rarely been so disgusted. Plates piled as high as Kilimanjaro - and every single woman weighed no less than 18 stone.
No room for any of them to add a drop of gravy to their meals, such was the enormous piles of food they'd all shovelled onto their plates.
Just craven piggery.
