Ah yes. "All the trimmings".

Not long until Christmas and a plethora of threads about people feeling ripped off by various catering establishments because of a difference of opinion about the definition of this phrase.

I can hardly wait!

Nice thick gravy for me.

Use Bisto and pour in all the meat juices that are left over and top up with a little water then stir until thick and smooth.

I once went to a south london pie and mash shop with a geordie. He ordered gravy instead of liquer.

I could have chinned him.

Gravy and a nice pickle beside it. Today's chicken had Runner Bean Chutney as an accompaniment.

"Gravy made from well-done beef has been shown to contain heterocyclic amines, which are potentially carcinogenic in humans."

Dry for me please.

"Some heterocyclic amines (HCAs) found in cooked meat are known carcinogens. Research has shown that cooking certain meats at high temperatures creates chemicals that are not present in uncooked meats. For example, heterocyclic amines are the carcinogenic chemicals formed from the cooking of muscle meats such as beef, pork, fowl, and fish."

On second thoughts, maybe I'll just have a cheese salad.

Thanks anyway.

Couldn't imagine roast dinner without gravy.  My grandad never had gravy with his meat, even turkey  - the driest of all meats.  Used to dread going there for sunday dinner.  Gravy and roast meat just seems so right.

I'm looking for that thread too as talking elsewhere on the subject.

I seem to recall that the poster went to a pub for "Roast beef and all the trimmings and it was £7.50.

When it came it was Beef, Gravy, Roast Potatoes and Carrots.

Not a "trimming" in sight and when he complained the landlord was abusive.

I recall the new pastor at the church moved with his family from Lancashire, and my sister and I were friendly with his son and daughter.

We were invited for lunch and it was horrendous. Imagine pastry and overcooked meat in a pie, with no gravy, and it was just impossible to swallow it.

To compound the felony, you weren't even allowed a drink till you finished.

Roast belly of pork being prepared and yes, plenty of gravy is in order. It's not an "all the trimmings" night though, just roast tatties, cabbage and asparagus.
Anyway that aside, does anyone know what happened to larrence? He was a regular poster on here and horse racing for many years but has been m.i.a. for ages. Really decent bloke and a Palace fan to boot, I hope he is OK.

Those little concentrated stock pots are brilliant. Put one in with flour, stock from veg and pan juices and it makes a delicious gravy. Using wine also helps the flavour, I'm surprised no-one has made a wine flavour stock pot as it would be a good idea for the Dragon's Den.

How can it be a christmas dinner if thee is no meat?  I am gonna have mashed spuds and swede with sprouts and peas and lashings of gravy for dinner.  No meat.

Because you have a nice veg roast with it. It was a Lentil, mushroom, mozzarella and pumpkin seed roast.

Sounds fkin revolting.  Why do veges bother replacing the meat, just have the veg and spuds and yorky puddings and gravy.  Mushrooms and mozarella for a christmas dinner?  I have got one word to say to that...... Broken Britain.
