poodles are gay looking dogs, but i imagine they have some good attributes....not guard dogs, but more of a companion. depends on what your requirements are. i like all dogs, except those cat looking ones, like paris hilton insists on dressing like a baby.

I know someone with a standard poodle bitch. I bumped into him over the fields when the dog had just caught a rabbit. It ripped the rabbit apart and ate ever scrap.
He reckoned it does the same to squirrels when she catches one.

poodles are fine. proper poodles, not toy poodles, and kept cut short all over. very clever as well.
quite how a decent working dog became miniaturised and absurdly coiffured by post menopausal women and perfumed ponces remains a mystery.

I've got a Doberman. She's gorgeous, smart, loving, loyal and as greedy as hell.
I had a bad habit of never locking the back door at night time, and one night some fooker(s) let themselves in, and got the fright of their lives. Luckily they scarpered straight away.

i've got a Spanish Water Dog bitch. She is just a joy. If you don't have a dog you are mad. I had a Lab, then a fox terrier & now my Spanish Water baby. I loved em all but my Spanish Sennorrita is different class. Really extraordinary dogs.

Have a look at Many Tears website. They are a non profit rescue centre in South Wales and have fosterers in most parts of the UK. I foster for them so if you need any further information, let me know.

About half are Staffies at local dog rescue home near me, sadly not easy to re-home them, in the right hands they are the most loving, good natured and misunderstood dog.
One couple brought a Staffie in recently but were told they couldn't take him as they had no kennel available...... next morning he was tied up outside on the gate. Could have been a lot worse I suppose and could have been dumped on the motorway or something.

You need to do a bit of research. Some breeds will be quite happy with a walk round the block whilst some require long daily walks, some require regular grooming (and probably cover the house with hair) whilst some breeds don't shed much hair at all. Food costs can be quite high with say a breed like a Rotty so make sure you think it all through and get some advice before you buy. Best of luck when you get the right pup.

Can't think why anyone would want a Rotty when there are so many decent breeds to choose from. Apart from using one as a guard dog of course.
Same applies to a bull terriers, all they're good for is ripping other dogs to pieces.

You can't beat a Lab if you want a bigger dog. Or a collie.
Alsatians are good too, but they can go off the rails if they're not handled properly. And most dog owners I know wouldn't how to, or couldn't handle one.

Bedlington Terrier; the can be feisty but really good pets - most dogs of whatever breed are loving & friendly if brought up properly - its not the dog its who is on the other end of the leash

That's the problem geordie1956, very few people know how to handle a dog to keep it in check. Many they think that being kind to it all the time and letting it get its own way will turn it docile. When the opposite is the case. People shouldn't be allowed to own powerful dogs that can turn nasty.

My uncle used to breed Border Terriers when I was a kid, we had three over the years. They were all fantastic, smart, friendly and very loyal. If I had the time and space now I wouldnt hesitate to get another.

Border Terriers, Westies, Yorkies you can't go wrong with these sorts of dogs.
Jack Russells are another small dog that won't stink the house out or leave hairs all over the place. There are so many to choose from, and they're all so good.

I had a Scottish terrier before the Westie rescue dog.He died of cancer a few months ago.
Scotties look like Westies except they are black.Their personalities are much, much different though.Scotties have this funny seriousness to them and are very stubborn/independent.They don't take to strangers at all but they are very intelligent and do have a strong bond with their owners.
Westies are more playful and friendly. Both are great but, If i had to recommend one i'd go with the Westie.

Not really B-B, he is off to Fitzpatrick's Referrals in Goldaming first thing tomorrow morning for a 10 hour chemotherapy session, he won't make old bones. He is in the best place possible and is fully insured but he is very wobbly. I'll be completely devastated should I have to make the decision in the next couple of years but you have to do the right thing.

Thanks M_D, the poor little thing won't be released until about 8 tonight, my Sister is going to pick him up and drop him off here. He is drained for two days after his chemo but he's a fighter
