Murray has no control over politicians trying to gain from turning up today, along with all the other media wh*res like Beckham's pouting wife. James Cordon etc etc. Amazing so many of them got lucky in the ballot - I try every year but have never got a ticket in the ballot.

'mon jamie bring one of those 2 cups home.

i remember winning a doubles tournie years ago and it was just one cup and they said you get it for 6 months each. i kept it the whole year. i have no shame.

I came across a Murray quote recently from 2012 that I'd missed at the time, quite telling.

"I used to think that losing made you more hungry and determined but after my success at the Olympics and the U.S. Open I realise that winning is the biggest motivation."

All the big boys this year are limiting their appearances pretty much to the slams and the Masters 1000's which are compulsory events.

Would be great if he could finally get the Oz Open on his cv, five times a losing finalist there.

I know many disagree, but for me his two Olympic gold medals are at least equal to major wins. Look how much it meant to Federer when he just missed out on a singles gold medal. They are a lot rarer that's for sure, the top players get 16 shots at a grand slam for every one Olympic gold. Same for golf for me, Justin Rose's gold is equal to a major.
Report johnnyrant July 12, 2017 5:12 PM BST

How can Justin Rose gold equal a major. Half the world's best players are Yanks, only 3 allowed to compete in Olympic golf?

While the field has to get made up with jokers who would never get near competing in a major.

Laid Murray for £7 to win £50. Small amount which I'm happy to lose to see him go through. Although tbf worth doing seriously as he's always way to short in price. Querrey wouldn't of beat a fit (Scottish) Andy Murray yesterday ! (Brithish) Andy Murray would of breezed by him Grin
Report lfc1971 July 13, 2017 10:13 AM BST
An Olympic gold in golf can never be the equal of a major.
Why? because of the nature of golf.
eg, in athletics the Olympics is made up of the best runners, those that can run the fastest times, that`s it (although limited to so many per country)
In golf it will not be the best golfers at the Olympics, because there will be 50 or 100 or more golfers equally good or better.
These players will take part in the majors, and that alone, putting aside the history and tradition makes the majors greater.

If he is to make a full return, Olympics being cancelled could be a blessing, he wouldn't have won this year, but next year he could make it 3 in a row
