THE CHIT CHAT CRUCIBLE QUIZ RULES

The quiz will consist of thirty six questions on the following subjects:

General Knowledge
History
Science and Nature
Geography
Sport and Leisure
Film and Television
Words and Numbers
Art and Literature

The questions are categorised as either red ball questions (worth one point) or colour ball questions (worth between two and seven points).

RED BALL QUESTION RULES

Red ball questions are open for everyone to answer.

Red ball questions are all General Knowledge and are worth one point to the fastest correct answer.

No penalty is levied for an incorrect answer.

The winner of a red ball question can then select a colour and a subject for the next question.

COLOUR BALL QUESTION RULES

Colour ball questions are open for everyone to answer.

Colour ball questions will be on the subjects of History, Science and Nature, Geography, Sport and Leisure, Film and Television, Words and Numbers, or Art and Literature depending on the choice of the preceding red ball winner.

Yellow ball questions will be the easiest and black ball questions the most difficult.

Yellow ball questions are worth two points to the first correct answer and one point to the second correct.

Green ball questions are worth three points to the first correct, two to the second and one point to the third.

This structure applies all the way up to black ball questions where seven correct answers (if applicable) score seven, six, five, four, three, two and one point respectively.

PENALTIES

Penalty points are deducted for incorrect answers on colour ball questions only.

An incorrect answer posted during yellow, green and brown ball questions will incur four away.

Incorrect answers posted on a blue ball question are five away; pink, six away; and black, seven away.

TEA BREAKS c[_]

There will be tea breaks after each fifth red and colour have been potted.

THE END GAME

Once fifteen reds and colours have been potted / answered the final six colours: yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black will decide the game.

Penalties apply during this stage.

SCORING

The maximum possible score / break is 147, though anything over 40 will probably win the Crucible Quiz.

Zero is the lowest anyone can go; no minus scores will be entered.

TIES

Ties will be decided with a re-spotted black question on General Knowledge.

GENERAL RULES OF THE GAME

Surnames are acceptable unless a full name has been requested in the question.

Abbreviations are entered at the quizzer's own risk; some are acceptable and some are not. Villa instead of Aston Villa, for example, would be permissable. KD instead of Kentucky Derby would not. As a general rule of thumb: if you're unsure if the abbreviation will be acceptable, it probably isn't.

HALL OF FAME

CCCQ I: J P McEnroe with 33 points (after respotted black)
CCCQ II: Nirvana with 40 points
CCCQ III: Muntz Street with 30 points
CCCQ IV: Mad Mad Moon with 34 points
CCCQ V: Nirvana with 25 points
CCCQ VI: Poppydog with 52 points
CCCQ VII: Easter 1916 with 30 points.
CCCQ VIII: Easter 1916 with 20 points.

Highest ever break: Mikael D'Haguenet with 15

Everybody welcome to play, but please sign in early if possible as it helps in the compilation of what is quite a tricky scoreboard.

Thank you.

Signing off now gentlemen.

Please could any other players add their names to the scoreboard and help keep the thread near the top until Friday.

Thanks. :)

A volunteer scorer would, as always, be most appreciated. I must warn, however, marking up the colours (and deducting all the fouls) can become a little tricky.

I'm sure NibbsVision can come up with something, it's just getting around the complexities of the rules (which Im still trying to get my head around).

You have every chance Pump. :)

Remember, many quizzers score points on the colours; it's only the one-point reds which are exclusively fastest-finger-first affairs.

Does it Toby? I do my best, but I'm all for progress. :)

Mr Nibbs interfaces the scoreboard with Excel, perhaps? That would indeed be an excellent improvement.
