Or wipe Windows XP/7 off your hard drive and replace it with Linux.
I don't use anti-virus software. I don't run a software firewall (I have a hardware firewall) Linux. Kills 99.9% of all viruses, dead. |
|
By:
only because 99.9% of viruses don't attack Linux.
Try playing poker in Linux and tell me how you get on? |
|
By:
Easy... Either look for a site that uses flash or use WINE...

Avira for me.
AVG was ok but became a bit bloated a couple of years ago with a new version and slowed my machine down no end so got rid. |
|

I maintain a few windows machines for friends and I usually use AVG but Kaspersky is the best if you want to pay...

What's the 2015 view on this? My 12 months of free McAfee expired today.

SUPERAntiSpyware is very good. Been using it for several months. No problems
|

Bin them all, you simply don't need them, don't click on dodgy emails or go to dodgy websites. Haven't used any for a long time, I just run malwarebytes now and again, nothing ever shows up.

id say your right ^ to a certain degree,
it was certainly a massive scaremonger tactic over the last 10 years saying we needed it |

remember rule number1=if its not broke, don't fix it.

Perhaps viruses are developed by anti-virus companies.
|
|

bix, now there is a thought to ponder!
I installed avg recently after mcafee ran out, I had no end of problems, still not sure weather the root of it was the fact I had two anti virus programs at the same time conflicting with each other even though one had expired or the fact avg for reason wasn't compatible with my laptop which after google searches, I found was the same problem for other users. |
|
By:
I use Microsoft Security Essentials, never had a problem with it, used avg before which was ok but some problems, would rather stick with MSE now.

I used Norton for years, but chucking £35 or was it £50, at it every year, only to find that it was getting more and more "bloated",
and slowing everything down. Since then I used AVG or Avast, and had no problems though, like someone else said, you have to be suspicious and wonder if they are attempting to persuade people onto the pay versions (why otherwise would they give it for free)? "Kaspersky" is available, if you have a "Barclays Platinum Account". I now use "McAfee", which is free with "BT Infinity", and that seems spot on to me. |
|
By:
They obviously want to get their name out to as many people as possible and of course, they do offer up-sell options for the consumer as well as business solutions.
|
|
By:
Yes, they do constantly invite you to go for the full version, by showing what you are getting with the free one, and what you get with the subscribe one.
|
|
By:
Free one is adequate.
I use Avast & Malwarebytes. |
|
By:
Panda is the best free and light AVG and Avast have been bloatware for a while.
Norton and Mcafee are the biggest cons going. |

I don't pay for McAfee, but what are the problems please? |

I've now removed the avg security i had on both pc's &
reverted back to the already installed windows defender, which now has anti virus built in anyway, surly that's got to make a computer run smoother, as a bit of back up of got maleware bytes free. |
