I'd never heard of it until about two weeks ago when it was featured as part of a Jonathan Dimbleby programme about Russia. Didn't see the whole thing but it looked good.

Interesting map. Thanks, rusty
Just 2,200 Jews in the JAO according to Wiki in 2002. A truly tiny enclave. I'm surprised at the dominance of orthodox Christianity in parts of Central Asia and the Far East, including the Kamchatka peninsula. Had no idea it was so widespread. |

only a total of 16m jews worldwide. Not many is it? They'll have died out in another 1000 years.
Strange to think of a world religion being consigned to the history books. It's interesting to see the number of local tribal religions in places like Brazil and Afica - all along the equator. Wonder if there's anything in that? |

If i were a braver man i'd be asking why there weren't splashes of blue and pink across the UK. But i'm not brave enought to ask that.

Taken from figures pre 2003 by looks of it so Uk would be the correct colour.. probably slightly different now.
Surely more than 2.4% Atheists around tho?... |

I didn't know there was a pretty much equal split between catolics and protestants in germany, more Sikhs than Jews, but no slice indicated on the pie.

India is given as Hindu but I,m pretty sure there are +100 million muslims there.

exactly! They seem to have gone to immense trouble to include some tiny population enclaves, and ignored other, huge ones.

Well wouldn't you be if you had to walk three miles for a can of fanta?

I think the colours are assigned on the basis of the belief-system held by the largest percentage of people within that area. Hence some relatively small but dense populations are included but some large but dispersed populatins are not (like the Muslims in India who are far outnumbered by their Hindu compatriots).

Nice to see Protestantism flourishing throughout a large swathe of Siberia.

I didn't know that Christians outnumbered Sikhs in India. Looks all that teaching people to play cricket may have been worthwhile afterall.
