a pain on the front of the lower limb of your legs

common in running when you've only started, should go away pretty quickly as in after a few runs

if you get it when you're walking, you've haven't walked enough in your life

shin splits even

an elderly chap and his mrs came around our over new years and i got them onto the Nintendo Wii and made them do the long jogging thing on it.

Anyway he is now in agony, went to docs and his mrs said he has been diagnosed with shin splits.

I feel a little guilty as i made them do it

I would never have thought shin splits were a cue to go to the doctors

perhaps it is for old people

it's not about curing it, it's about training your leg to get over it

in the same way as you don't "cure" being unfit, you have to train yourself over it

same with me redbag - 4 years ago i was training for the great north run, with the london marathon my long term aim

Kept getting to 5-6 miles and they would start hurting, started with just a day to recover, then the more it went on, the longer it took to recover. People told me to get new running shoes/trainers, but that didn't help either.

I *may* try again in the near future. I shed 3 stone in weight last year, so I'm wondering if my body/shins may be able to cope this time around

i would still put gout in an higher category for pain than shin splints though, the most painful thing ever imho and i have had them both

punterfleecer is about right imo.

i get shin splints when i run, especially on roads, between 1 and 6km, but after that alright. Can put you off but you get through it if you persevere. makes you feel like your shins are on fire, but not so bad.

i've had lots of complaints when running, but if you just carry on running then you get over it from my experience.

sure a doctor would tell you to go home and have a w.ank or something.

pos4st

it's just the usual moan moan moan, I need a doctor etc

it's hard to teach them lot to train over the shin splits etc

sore side muscle when running..."oh I need a doctor" all that crap

punterfleecer is right. They are just microtears in the anterior muscle (usually from heel-striking rather than running flatter or on toes). Eccentric contractions often do this sort of thing. A bath and a few days will sort it.
