Very safe
No football shirt filth
High tea at Reids a must
Have a couple of nap places to eat, will have to dig out their name.

No football shirt filth? The Madeirans themselves have a rep in Portugal, but not especially savage, more passionate. The tiny island supports 2 top flight Portuguese teams (Maritimo and Nacional). No embarrassing tourist thuggishness though.

We stayed at Reid's. It was absolutely mind-blowing. Having**tails in the**tail lounge is an absolute must - it used to be a favourite haunt of the authors and movie stars of the 20s and 30s. Have a meal there if you can too - they have 3 restaurants, and the food was great.

Overall it is very quiet though, and in February it might be a bit cold. I'd say it's more an October/April sort of place.

Maderia does look and sound a beautiful place .

I note there are cruises to the Azores and the Canaries that include Madeira .

Some trip that one
