I find Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City far more abhorrent.

Because United started the Disneyfication which has wrecked our national game. I know others would have done it eventually but they started it.

For this I will always hate them.

they're a proper club with proper history. they've produced some of the greatest footballing moments for me in the last 20 years and are by far the most successful club of last 20 years and are fast catching up with liverpool for the title of best english club of all time.

i agree the commercialisation of the game is a bit w.anky, and I don't like it. SKY tv and the premiership itself are as responsible for this as anyone.

Louis Edwards started it all with his aim of making the same/more money for Man U off the pitch than they got in receipts.

Man U started it all and now look at where they are going to end up.

Liverpool = chip on their shoulder
Arsenal = foreign p.oofs (wenger the worst of all managers for blaming everyone else whenever anything goes wrong for them)
Chelsea = little history, living off dirty money
Man City = little history, living of oil money

**ing - I hate this, but they all do it.

hassling refs - I hate this, but they all do it.

fergie time - The ref decides how much injury time there is. Are yo moaning about the ref? see above.

inbred songs - what?

cantona - Great player, what's your problem?

twisted obsession with liverpool - you're taking the p.ss ain't you. it is the other way round from my experience. lol at that sign saying come back cantona when you've won 18 titles. pmsl.

Most of my mates are spurs and arsenal fans, and apart from hating each other they generally hate Chelsea. They don't specifically hate United or Liverpool.

Maybe it's a northern thing.

the 18 titles were lucky then? and the 3 european cups?

In terms of trophies they are, just, the second best english team ever. And they were more exciting than Liverpool. I grew up with Liverpool winning everything and they were boring as fek, and everyone hated them.

People have short memories.

All genuine fans who support teams from the area they grew up in, have a healthy dislike for other teams, especially the local rivals.

However the 2nd greatest dislike is for the team that is regarded as the best, I'm old enough to remember this same vehemence targetted at Leeds in the 70s,

I've never really hated watford though Hoss.

I'm not necessarily a genuine fan, just follow lutons results but don't really know too much about the players and that and haven't seen them for 1 years. Was a mega fanatic when i was young, but started living in different places, couldn't watch them, and lost contact with the people i used to go with unfortunately. A shame I admit.

As someone who has watched football for 40 years, am not English, don´t support a team and no longer live in the UK I find it a bit surprising too. As a football purist I just like to see good entertaining attacking football. None of this score one and shut up shop shiite.

To my eyes Man Utd, along with the likes of Barcelona and Wenger´s Arsenal, are one of the few teams nowadays who always try to score goals and entertain. They might not always achieve it but at least they try.

Unlike Madrid, Chelsea and now Man City, Utd have - especially under Fergie - always given young players a chance and even though they have had in the past a lot of money available, haven´t always spent it to try to buy success.

I think the reason other teams´fans hate them so much can only be explained in one word: jealousy.

Don't hate Man Utd or their active support. Just hate the superstore merchandise remote buyers who have never been to a game at Old Trafford, nor would go to see them if they were playing locally. They are quick to be smug when they beat your side but havent got the wit, knowledge, argument or take it on the chin humour that people who know and have experienced the proper ups and downs of supporting a team.

Not just Man Utd either, but goes for a number of teams.

I don't hate them although I can't stand the media when they refer to them as "united" irrespective of who they are playing. So I guess it's the @rse licking media who put them up on a pedestal half a century ago (and the ones who carried it on) that I can't stand

Because United started the Disneyfication

I think the Bosman ruling created the Disneyfication.

When I was a kid I wrote off to all the (then) first Division clubs asking for their autographs. All sent me back but UTD sent me back the autographs along with a large package on the history of Man UTD and other goodies with a catalogue, they even sent me my stamp back.

I don't support anyone in England (soft spot for Burnley perhaps) but it isn't a wonder they are the biggest club in the world.

As a Man City supporter, local rivallry dictates I'm not a great fan of Man Utd. Would say hatred is a bit strong, but there are a few things which leave a sour taste.

1. The treatment some of the Busby Babes received after the disaster was very poor. One of them, Albert Scanlon (RIP) ended up working on Salford Docks FFS.

2. Lads who I grew up having no interest in football, suddenly becoming armchair experts and referring to Utd as "we". One clown recently tried educating me that "Liverpool have never won the league".

3. Utds indifference to fans who followed them home and away during the barren years, being priced out from watching a game.

4. Despite having an amazing record in terms of trophies, the ramblings and whining of SAF every time they drop points is becoming tiresome.

I have several friends who are Utd fans who'd generally agree with most of the above.

As for City having no history, in recent times there's been a lack of success. However they've still won 8 domestic trophies (lost 5 finals) and a European club competition.

They still hold the record attendance for an Englsh game played outside Wembley, 84,569

The reason I started 'hating' Man U growing up in the 70's was the unbearably superior attitude of the supporters about a club who, at the time, were pretty much a laughing stock in terms of on-field performances, even managing to get relegated at one stage.
With this ineptness (in title terms) carrying on through the 80's, coupled with the appointment of an absolute clown like Atkinson then the obnoxious khunt that is Ferguson, it was pretty easy to maintain and justify this level of contempt, accompanied as it still was by the 'biggest club in the world' b0ll0x from the MU fans.
All of these feelings had, or indeed have, nothing to do with any on field success, because these feelings were generated despite any such success. It baffles me why anyone could dislike a team purely because they are successful.
Nowadays, as a bitter, twisted cynic, my contempt for MU extends way past them to the dubiously funded Chelski & beyond to the whole no-morals game we have today.

I grew up being a United hater big time , being an Oldham fan.

But as an adult I have read stacks of books on the babes & the 1960's teams , a fascinating era of football.

Most of all though I feel pretty confident on being able to make money on here in their games :)
