When someone asks how you are, do you reply "very well thanks" or "very good thanks", (assuming you are in good health?)

My education taught me that well is the correct answer, and that is what I always say, and the increasing number of people who say good,( plenty of examples on TV) annoy me somewhat.

Thank you.

A true gent will say "How do you do", of which the correct response would be "How do you do".

most people walk passed and go 'alright' and the reply is usually 'alright mate'. I think next time I may stop them and go 'well yeah, mostly but I have got a bit of a niggle etc.....' see the look of shock when they just expected to stroll by.

I thought good described a person or persons, and well described an action.

I'm good, just sounds plain wrong, for me.

You could say that about 90% of threads.
