We went for the football last year kev
Stayed at the Best Western which was good value. Ours was nr the blue mosque, but there's several in that chain around town. Taxim sq is nothing special, although there's a long shopping rd off it, that has loads a little bars and clubs in the sidestreets off that. One of the locals told us about ortatoy which is a nice spot by the foot of the bridge (nr the besiktas area of town) where the locals go for food and drink Fenerbahce is on the asian side, just get a ferry from the west. We spent another half day on a little island, sat out in the sun drinking beers, no cars on the island just horse and carts which was a different world from istanbul. Dunno what it was called but another ferry goes there from the centre for about a quid. |

Cheers Crescit.
We're hoping to go to two games, assuming they're on different days. Galatasary on one day and BB Istanbul v Fenerbache on the other day. Hopefully tickets won't be a problem. They won't be for the latter game as it's at the Ataturk stadium which holds 80,000. I'll take a look at your recomendation. We're only after the basics. Food, drink, public transport (metro, tram, buses etc) to take us to the football. |

pity you can't take in a besiktas game too, even the gala & fener fans seemed to agree that they were the most fanatical and noisiest of the three
search up "fenerbahce burning" on you tube and you'll see some "atmosphere" |
