The gf wants to go up to Manchester for the day the last friday in february to do some birthday shopping.

Anyone recommend something? Anything up to £100 ish is fine, would be nice if its close to the main shopping area's (so ive got short walks back to take the bags!).

Somewhere close also to an area where we can get a nice meal (recommendations for italians welcome) at night time and maybe a couple of quietish bars (Ive got something on the next day so it wont be turning into a nightclub night!)

Cheers

my restaurant recommendations:

Teppenyaki (Liverpool street ) always good fun
Gaucho Grill - next to Kendals
Yang Sing - China Town - just great authentic chinese food
Grill on the Alley - nice gastro food
Shimla Pinks - great indian restaurant

Not a great fan of Italians but San Carlo is very nice, probably see a few footballers in there.

make sure you book

Ok, thanks for the recommendations so far guys, ive jotted those down and will look them up in the morning.

The San Carlo sounds nice, might treat her for her birthday-out of interest how much would i be looking at for a meal in there?

San Carlo is alright but so over hyped and up its own ar$e.

It is a decent restaurant imo. Not the heart stopping experience that some people make out.

My suspiscion is, and it is backed up by the fact that you can't find people mentioning the place without throwing in a mention of this, is that so many people are in awe of celebrities that they would go overboard about anywhere that has a celeb reputation.

It's a bit pathetic and I find all the 'celeb' hype about the place a bit sickening.

Actually, it is a bit harsh to say the restaurant is up its own ar$e. It doesn't have that sort of atmosphere inside imo but it does have ridiculous photos of celebs leaving there all over the bar bit as if that is some sort of mark of credibility.
