My 9 year old boy has seen the trailer for Avatar and is really keen to see it. I know it is a 12A so there is no problem in taking him, but does anyone who has seen it have a view as to whether a 9 year old should see it?

My view is there are a panel of experts that rate films and categorise them into age brackets. This one has been certified a 12A which to me would suggest it is not suitable for 9 year olds.

richard make sure its the 3-D version though ;)

I'll be a dissenting voice.

It's a very long film, 162 minutes plus the adverts.
The 3D version is very realistic and if you ,or your son, are prone to motion sickness, you might well feel queasy.
The violence is violent, the sex is subdued. The language is tolerable.
Pester power will probably win the day, but I would be tempted to disuade him from going. 9 years old is a very young age to see this film.

9 year olds today aren't like they used to be

half of them are into hard drugs and pimping

i would never allow my 9yr old to watch anything unsuitanble. Avatar is fine

Just going slightly off topic, when my young lad was 9 we took him to a family funeral,
you can't shield them from these things and they should know - although at that age
maybe not properly understand, and when we were waiting to go into the funeral service
he starts telling his sister about how Egyptian Mummies are mummified,
and all the body parts are taken out except the heart....and the poor ones are buried in sand
and the rich ones are buried in a tomb......ready for the journey into afterlife.

So not sure exactly what his perception of death was !!!!! Or should we have taken him or not,
and amazing how they pick up things, he had seen the action film The Mummy
and he had a picture book with a drawing of an Egyptian Mummy.
But me and the missus were totally gobsmacked when he starts coming out with all this stuff at the funeral.

I took my 9 year old son to see it over Christmas. He loved it and there was nothing in it that freaked him at all. He sees worse on PS2 games imo.

i wouldnt let my kid watch anything by the devil worshipper Cameron but then again you guys probably think sticking a disney film on is okay .....

horses for courses i suppose .... but 99% of Hollywood and Tv in general is brainwashing at its finest.

Read him a classic book instead.
