There are discussions within my company about going onto 12
hour shifts.

we have 4 people in our team needing 24 hour coverage.

I have tried to find some info on internet but u have to pay for a lot of the examples.
How many blocks of days and nights would u work i.e 2 days and 2 nights before getting a long spell off.
I have heard u get 10 days off every so often or 18 days off in summer but not sure how it works.

I know a lot of people who do 12 hour shifts for 4 days running and then get 3 days off

It is 2 shifts og 7am till 7pm and vicer versa, 2 shifts of 7pm till 7 am.

Im not aware of any law which gives you a "break" period as such because you do this type of shift.

I know lads who work on the rigs which works out 6 months on 6 months off.

I also know people who work in the prison service who work 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.

But not heard of any special alowances for 12 hour shifts 4 times a week other than the 3 days off for the rest of the week.

"we have 4 people in our team needing 24 hour coverage."

If there only four of you that's the only way you can work it

3 on 3 off
4 on 4 off

Etc

i don't think the 12 hour days would bother me. However 12 hour nights maybe would.
I cover 8 hour night shifts now but is from 9:30pm to 5:30am
and 7pm to 7am has very little appeal for me especially the
last two hours where i would struggle to stay awake.

As people have said, it varies.

BUT there are legal restrictions on night work so you might want to have a look at some of the government web sites.
