Went in October 2006 to Marrakech for 3 days, wouldn't advise the trip to Atlas in such a short visit, we stayed in the medina in a traditional riad but would advise a hotel stay for a short visit.

The sightseeing bus gives a good view of the city, the souks are wonderful but only pay 40% of the 1st price if that and the restaurants are poor unless you are in the hotel sector

We went to a berber show but as there was 8 of us, the value wasn't great as the couple on the next table had the same food as we did but the show was good

Went this year for a 4 day stay. Stayed in a riad in the medina and it was great. The house cook made some knock-out dishes and found a couple of decent restaurants. Stay in the medina side as the new city is a dump (mind you so is the medina but it's supposed to be!) and get some walks into the souk. It's a mindboggling experience. Don't ever look at a map or appear lost as you'll be swamped by good hearted locals offering to show you the way and then hitting on you for an exorbitant tip. You can book a day trip up into the mountains... private taxi, good guide and great views. Be prepared to spend an hour or two at customs on your way in... what is it with Muslim countries?... and just let the whole experience wash over you.

Did I enjoy the visit? Wouldn't have missed it for the World. Would I go back? No fwcking way!

Ive walked the Atlas Mountains for Diabetes UK in 2006a nd then spent a day in Marrakech before coming home.
The walk isnt as difficult as they would have you believe, if you are generally fit then you could do it in a day up and down. They like to drag it out though.
Marrakech is a real eye opener if you have never been before, hard to describe but you have to go to experience it.
