climate change due to global warming is pretty much a fact. whether it is caused by man is the issue of debate

Don't bother..... the scientists already know

The climate changes throughout history WITHOUT the influence of man.

06 January 2010

According to the Australian government's Bureau of Meteorology, the past calendar year -2009 was the second warmest on record in Australia since 1910.

The bureau said on Tuesday the high temperatures were caused by unusual or extreme heatwaves, with a temperature trend consistent with global warming, according to a Dow Jones Newswires report.

Australia recorded an annual mean 2009 temperature that was 0.90 degrees Celsius above 1960-90 average which made it Australia's second-warmest year since high-quality records began in 1910 according to the bureau's annual climate statement. According to records 2005, was Australia's warmest year.

High temperatures were especially notable in the south-east during the second half of 2009 as Australia nationally as well as the Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales independently recording their warmest July-December periods on record.

wur... but hasn't it been proven the global temperature (on average) has dropped for the last 10 years hence why it isn't called "global warming" anymore & has been changed to "climate change"

I think so....

I love the way we use records of no more than 100 years with no more than say 20 years of those records being reliable. Who knows what the temp fluctuations were throughout history? We are extrapolating trends from utterly insignificant data imo. The Earth is 5bn + years old and we deduce we are fcking up the climate based on data from 100 years. Excuse my scepticism

You mean the earth is older than 100 years old! :0

No, it hasn't dropped. NASA have 2005 ahead of 1998 as the warmest on record and the last decade was far warmer than the 90s.

actually its not, I was wrong, just remembered it began in about 1992 according to SKY ;)

Oh and im aware certain things can be calculated, like temp, co2 concentrations etc using fossils. Im still Skeptical though

Of course there is Sir Denis.... thats why no scientists will put their name on papers supports the planet is warming due to man-made influences.

Global warming is taking place.
The cause of it being man-made and the effects of it are open to debate.
For those that think we should be getting warmer here in the UK if global warming does exist:Go and read about Thermohaline Circulation.
We will get much colder.
By:
grendel
When: 06 Jan 10 13:11
GH are you suggesting that UK's temperature is inversely related to global temperatures ???

Absolutely bang on imo
lots of scientists will perpetuate a myth to keep themselves in nice life long careers,NASA pointed out evidence of massive fluctutions in weather patterns going back thousands of years, but came under fire from government agencies to retract, after 3 abysmal summers here and a cruel winter theres no real evidence of a cataclysmic climate event imo

Yes.
Have you read about Thermohaline Circulation?
By:
grendel
When: 06 Jan 10 13:30
yeah ... conveyor belt of sea-water moving around the world

why would that make UK colder when the rest of the world is warming and vice versa?
By:
Gene Hackman
When: 06 Jan 10 13:35
The "conveyor belt" of warm water -gulf stream/north atlantic drift - that keeps us relatively mild, considering how far north we are, would be "switched off".
By:
Gene Hackman
When: 06 Jan 10 13:37
It's happened many times over the last few hundreds of thousands of years. It can happen very quickly again apparently - in at little as 20 years.

GH would you agree that during the maunder minimum when global temperatures were much lower than today that the temperature in the u.k. was also much lower than today ?

also during the medieval warm period that the u.k. temperatures were warmer than today in line with warmer global temperatures?
By:

What caused it to happen before, if it wasn't caused by CO2?
